Windows 10: Can't change properties of .NEF files since last Windows 10 update

Hello. At the end of August my system was updated and since then it is not possible anymore to change details of .NEF photos on computer.

I.e. before you made a right click on the photo, chose Properties and then Details and it was possible to change certain details (for instance Camera Type). Now this option is frozen - it is not possible to change anything. Same thing happened on two different computers when last update of the system was performed.

Do you have any idea how can I fix this?

Windows 10 will not open my .NEF files

Hi,

I realize the inconvenience you are experiencing with .NEF files. I will certainly help you.

To assist you better, I would like to know whether you are referring to Windows Photo Gallery or Photos app.

Since NEF is a RAW format, the image usually have huge file size and it will take some time to get opened. I suggest you to try opening the image in Photo gallery and wait for some time and check if you are able to open the picture.

As a troubleshooting step, I suggest you to run the app troubleshooter and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows 10 forced download

To stop the download, uninstall the KB3035583 update (under "Control Panel > Windows Update > Installed Updates").


To get rid of the C:\$Windows.~BT folder:

• Right-click on your C: drive.
• Select "Properties".
• Click on [ Disk Cleanup ]
• After the initial scan: If you have a [ Clean up system files ] button, click it and wait for the second scan to finish.
• Scroll down the list and look for "Temporary Windows installation files" (its size should be in the gigabytes range); check the box.
• Click on [ OK ] to start the clean-up.
