Windows 10: Can't change sign in from local account to Microsoft account on laptop

I cannot change Windows sign in from local account to Microsoft account.From Account Settings I select, "Sign in with Microsoft account instead", I enter my Microsoft email & PW, I get Authenticator notification and I approve.I get the "Sign into this computer using Microsoft Account" dialog box and I enter my "Current Windows password" I know it's correct because if I use an incorrect password, it tells me the PW is wrong. Then I get an "Oops, something went wrong". What's going on and how do I actually get my local account changed to my Microsoft account???

Switch laptop sign in from MS account to Local Account questions

Hi, Ive just switched from signing in to my laptop with a Microsoft Account to signing in with a Local Account instead. My laptop was always listed as a Device on the opening screen along with a map showing its location when I looked in my Microsoft Account. Under Devices I could also view my laptop along with other bits of various information about the device and its location was always shown on a map there too. After signing into my laptop with my Local Account ..If I sign in separately to my Microsoft Account afterwards Ive just noticed that having switched to a Local Account my laptop isnt shown on the opening Microsoft Account screen anymore and its not listed in devices either. Is this normal behaviour? I was expecting to still find my laptop listed in Devices. Also...Under Update and Security/Activation..it used to say Digital Licence linked to a Microsoft Account. Now it just says Windows is Activated with a digital licence. Is all this normal behaviour if you sign into a laptop with a Local Account instead of a Microsoft Account?

 

Microsoft Account Sign in or Local Account Sign in?

Hi Mike. Yeah..Even though I only have one Windows device (my laptop) that has been my main reason for using the Microsoft account sign in method over the Local Account sign in method. The fact that when you sign in with a Microsoft Account it links your Hardware ID-Product Key (Im not sure if its both) to your Microsoft Account so any hardware changes don't cause problems with Windows 10 Activation. I had to have a faulty motherboard replaced under my laptops warranty and because I was signed into my laptop with my Microsoft Account Automatic Windows 10 Activations weren't affected at all. I did a clean install on the laptop a few weeks later without any issues

• Select Your email and accounts and click on Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
• Type the details for your Microsoft Account.
• Reboot the PC for the changes to take effect.
