Windows 10: Can't change Theme settings for Desktop Background, Window Color, Soun

Navigating to Settings > Personalization > Themes > Theme Settings, we get to the Personalization window for Themes same as on Win 7. In the window it states "Click a theme to change the desktop background, color, and sounds all at once."


However, the icons normally at the bottom of the window to change those settings are missing. All I can do is save the theme (right click).


Any insight on this is appreciated.

Back ground Colour

Which background color? For your desktop background or the background of windows?

Generally, changing from your current theme back to the Windows 10 theme should reset your colors.

What you're looking for does not exist in Windows 10, to change some of these things go to settings>personalisation.

 

Thanks. I guess the statement "Click a theme to change the desktop background, color, and sounds all at once" is a leftover from Win 7. Was more convenient to do it all from one spot. Lost some efficiency on this one.

 

It's still a new OS, it will probably become more user friendly with updates. *Thumbs

 

+1, I have such a hard time trying to understand what they are doing when they take something that is very easy, accessible, and intelligently laid out.......and just get rid of it!!!! Probably have so many different people making changes that these obviously "stupid ones", just blow right past. (by the way......my first post!! Yaaa!!)

 

Yes. I also miss the ability to choose a single picture from a theme and stick that as the background. Win 8.1 was very nice in that regard. Hopefully Windows 10 will evolve in that direction.

I'm surprised by some of the Win 8.1 niceties being missing from Windows 10. But I am still very new to Windows 10, so there will be a time of getting comfy with it, much like Windows 8.

I found an inconvenient *Confused way to pick the pictures from a theme that you want. Took awhile to find as I had to do a search for ALL .jpg files and scroll through them. A trip down memory lane. But I found where they will be.

You also need to have your computer show "hidden files". Hopefully you can look that up if you can't see the hidden files. But if you can't find out how, message back and I can outline how to do that as well.

To find the theme pics, click icon or folders in this order:
From "start" open "File Explorer"
"C:" Drive
Users
Folder named with your user name
App Data ( Hidden folder in lighter folder)
Local
Microsoft ( you have to scroll fairly far to get to it)
Windows
Themes
Pick theme you want to change

In the themes folder are all the themes you may have downloaded. I made a new folder for unused pics so they were still there but not visible to windows when it looked in main folder and left ones I wanted to see in the mix.
