Can't clean disk of old OS after updating

I am running a Lenovo Thinkpad 10 tablet and have updated Win 10. I am getting a warning message that I'm now low on storage and need to delete the old copy. Nothing happens when I press yes and soon after get another warning message saying the same again. I went to the system app Disk Clean and tried the advanced erase OS files button and it too didn't delete any of old windows files, but did erase some other temp files? *Sad

Ran SFC /SCANNOW from the command prompt to check that all the Win programs were working and it reported everything's fine.

Not sure at this point to go in myself and start deleting folders and possibly do some damage. Does anyone have any suggestions, all welcome. Thanks for your help.

    :)

  2. Uninstalling Windows 8.1 after upgrade to Windows 10

Are you referring to the old install which is archived in windows.old folder in C drive for 30 days to use to Go back to the old OS?

This is supposedly deleted by Disk Cleanup after 30 days. If not and you're sure you have everything that might have been left it is files, you can type Disk Cleanup in the Start Search box, select the option to Clean Up System Files, when it presents its
choices select the box for the old OS.

  3. Lost all USB connection after Windows 10 Update.

As said, after accepting a Windows 10 Update all USB ports were disabled. Ask Community for an assist. Nothing corrected the issue. Finally did a clean install from an old Windows 7 disk and USB works. Is there a way to get Windows 10 back without having
    to buy the OS?

I couldn't follow the instructions, but I guess that's more me. I found a work around that did it. I put the Disk Cleanup app on the desktop. (Got the path from its properties on the start menu. ) Then I right clicked on the desktop and it displayed the 'Run as Administrator' option selected. When I then ran it from the desktop, had administrator permission and was able to delete the old Windows.old folder.

Just to clean this thing up, there is another folder, Windows10Upgrade, can I delete that one, too?

Thanks for all the help, the info you gave me was helpful in that it got me thinking and gave me more to consider.

    best. *Smile
