Windows 10: Can't close running apps directly through taskbar.

I don't know if this is bug or anything else, but for some reason I can't close running apps from taskbar itself. Like when you hover over any running app that is displayed on taskbar with the cursor, a tiny preview of the app pops up floating above the same, and there is a cross mark which can be used to close that app. But for some reason clicking on that cross mark isn't closing the app for a few weeks now, surprisingly it works when I start screen recording. Other than that, whenever I boot my laptop, it does not. Windows is up to date.

Method 1:

Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter and check if it helps. This troubleshooter will help you fix common issues with Windows Store.

a. Press Windows + X
keys and click on Control Panel.

b. Click on Troubleshooting.

c. Click on View all and search for "Windows Store Apps" troubleshooter.

d. Click on the troubleshooter and follow the prompts to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2:

If the issue persists, you may run the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool which fixes the Windows corruption error if there are any. Follow the steps:

    Press Windows+X.
    
  • 
    Click on Command Prompt (Admin).
    
  • 
    Type the command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    and hit Enter.

Search and taskbar keeps popping up

Are you referring to taskbar preview window pop-ups?



If yes, there is no option to disable the taskbar window pop-ups when you hover the mouse, this is by design.

However you may Auto-hide taskbar by following the below steps and check if it helps.

• 
  Right click on the taskbar and select properties.
  
• 
  In the Taskbar tab, Place a tick mark for Auto-hide the taskbar.
  

You may provide your suggestions in the feedback app.

Follow the steps:

• Go to Start, enter the phrase Windows Feedback, and then select Windows Feedback.
• See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft Music.
• If you find similar feedback, select it, add any details, and then select Me too.
• To narrow your search to a specific category, pick the category that most closely matches your feedback (so it gets to the right people quickly). For example, for feedback about the Music app, select Apps > Music.
• If you don’t find any similar feedback, select New Feedback, and choose a topic from Select a category and then select a subcategory.
  
• Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and you're done.

Stock windows apps won't run
