  1. Can't copy everything from folder OneDrive to external hard disk using xcopy in DOS

    My friend brought me his laptop with BSOD. I have tried everything to repair Windows 11, nothing has worked. When I try to copy OneDrive folder and all subfolders to external hard disk using xcopy in DOS I get this error: File creation error - The file cannot be accessed by the system. Does anybody know solution for this error?

    :)

  2. Command line copy, Xcopy cant see files unless 'onedrive' is inserted.

    In your description you left out a few essential details. Let me guess. Is this what you are trying to do:

    1. You launch Windows on the laptop with the broken screen.
    2. You open a Command Prompt by pressing the Windows key+R, then typing cmd.exe{Enter}.
    3. You're using some xcopy command to copy some files to an external disk.

      What exactly is this command?
    Did you consider restoring the files from your external backup medium?

    xcopy "not enough disk space" in win10

    Hi there. I have an issue with win10 and xcopy. Every time I buy an external hdd or ssd (I own a lot of those, both kinds, mainly used for backups, and not stressed much) I check if it works, by formatting it and fill it with rubbish. The process goes like that, I create a folder in the root of that drive, say fill00001 and put about 10GB of rubbish files in it, few large (~1 to 1.5GB each), some of average-size, more of small size. Then I use a batch file (stored in the same root folder of the external drive), with a for-loop, md, xcopy, to create a series of folders where the numbers increment each time, and folder n is copied into folder n+1, until the space is exhausted. This may take hours, or 1-2 days, depending on disk size and interface. At the end, the last folder is ignored (obviously, it is incomplete) and the content of the one-before-last folder is compared with the content of the first folder (fill00001) byte by byte, binary. If they don't match, the disk will be returned (sellers will usually accept a refund in 7 days or so, and filling it with rubbish saves me the time to wipe it if I return it, also, you may not believe, but this is faster than the full format). From the past experience, if this test passes, the disk will run for many years (as said, not stressed much, after the initial test).

    With the last external ssd I bought, I found out that the process doesn't work anymore, and the reason is that meantime I switched to win10. I still run win7 in most of my computers (if it works, don't fix it!) but a laptop recently bought came with 10. When I run xcopy on this laptop, on external ssd (any external ssd), xcopy stops with "insufficient disk space to copy, please insert another disk and press return". This happens regardless of the fact that xcopy runs from a batch or directly from command line, regardless of the fact that cmd propmt is open with admin rights or not (I am the only user, and always admin), regardless of the file I want to copy, or its size, regardless of the switches I use in cmd line, and regardless of the fact that the external disk is formatted as exFAT or NTFS. Note that the folder structure is correctly created, but the first file it tries to copy will give the error (which can only be aborted with ctrl+c). Note also that there is a LOT of free space on disk (in some case, few TB), and copying files with explorer or total commander have no issue. Note also that xcopy (the same batch file) works correctly when doing this trick on the local drive (also SSD, M2, internal) or external HDD. It just doesn't like the external SSD disks. Note also that everything works perfect in win7. My issue is only xcopy+win10+external SSD. I got so pissed of it that I installed win10 in a desktop, just to try. The same, so it is not laptop-related (the win10 in the laptop was pre-installed from Dell). If it helps, the powershell extension is installed on both computers.

    No idea what to make of it... Thanks in advance for any tip or trick...

  4. Can't copy everything from folder OneDrive to external hard disk using xcopy in DOS

    Batch and Xcopy

    My objective is to create a program that copies data in my documents, and then puts it onto an external drive.

    My code I think I should do is:

    @xcopy /e /y "C:\Users\PVTCaboose1337\Documents\School" "M:/School"

    Yet is does not work. In this instance, I am trying to put the folder "school" into drive M which is my external hard drive.
