    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

  3. CANNOT CREATE NEW PARTITION FROM C DRIVE

Your problem is that you already have 4 primary partitions. This is the maximum allowed under the MBR scheme. On the other hand you also have 2 Recovery partitions. Why?

I would do this to be on the safe side:

    1. Use the free version of Macrium Reflect to create an image of your disk. Park it on an external disk.
    2. Create a bootable Macrium rescue flash disk.
    3. Delete the Recovery partition on the far right of your Disk Manager display.
    4. Press Shift+Restart to check if you can still boot into Windows Repair Mode.
    5. Create a new partition for your dual boot scheme.
In case something goes wrong, restore the image created in Step 1.

CANNOT CREATE NEW PARTITION FROM C DRIVE

    Hi GoldDust5364

If you right click the first partition on that drive (Recovery partition to the left of your C drive partition), do you have the option to delete that volume?

If so, you can safely delete that, because you still have a recovery partition on that drive

If you can delete that partition, then you can create a new partition on the Unallocated Space to the right of your C drive partition to install Windows 7 onto . . .
