Windows 10: Cant create partition on disk, DISKPART gives CRC fault,

Hi all,

I have a problem and hope you guys and girls can help. I have a 2TB Western Digital drive. It somehow got corrupted and I am now trying to resolve the issue. easeUS data recovery wizard is already running for almost 24 hours and only did 8 percent of the disk. It also has not found data yet.

I think the problem is that I cant create a partition on the disk. It gives a CRC fault, the disk also has no volume.

Are there any smart people that think they can help? All input works!

Hi! I've done everything above. I deleted partition, it's the only drive and only one partition when I bought it then I decided to create a D partition and clean install windows. but after I deleted the partition it say that windows cannot create partition.
even on DISKPART, CRC error returns whenever I do the Disk Cleaning was successful but creating a partition returns the crc error.

also. the windows installation only initiates when in CSM BOOT, the media (adata 16gb 2.0) was not detected if I set it to UEFI.

Instead of just typing "CLEAN" in diskpart, I typed "CLEAN ALL" it's a very long process but it enables me to create a partition thus, continuing to install window! yay! hooray thank you again for baring time with me! God Bless!

 

A Cyclic Redundancy Error can sometimes be corrected by running checkdisk on the drive. For example, if the drive is letter F, then you would open a command prompt window and type
Code: chkdsk F: /f[/quote] So you chkdsk F: and tell it to "fix" by using the /f switch.

 

If you can't see the drive in Explorer, and you can't assign a drive letter in Disk Management, then you'll want to try a partition recovery:

Maybe we need to solve that first?

 

And what happens if you try a partition recovery?
If you are successful with that, I would get your data off there ASAP, and assume the drive has gone bad. I would not use it for critical data any more.

Hi Simrick, I have the partition tool running for more than 24 hours now, it only scanned 5 percent of the drive so far. Is this normal? Are there any processes to speed this up or maybe trough an other way? Hope you can help

 

How much data do you have on that 2TB drive? If it's pretty full, and in really bad shape, it could take a very long time, and we may need to take other measures.

Have you checked the health of the drive?

(Standard Edition is fine)

If it's in really bad shape, you may have to resort to some extreme measures to get your data off it. So, please give us the particulars:
How old is the drive?
How much data is on it?
How important is the data?
What is the health as reported by Crystal Disk Info?

I had a failing drive from which I was able to successfully recover all the data. It was the OS drive of a laptop, and took about 7 hours for 90GB of data.

Normally, I would suggest taking the drive out of the case, and hooking it up directly with a SATA to USB adapter cable. Many times the data can be retrieved that way. In fact, the drive may be perfectly okay; it's just the internal PCB that has gone bad. This happens quite a lot.

The only potential problem could be, (if the the printed circuit board [PCB] inside the external drive has indeed gone bad): In the case of Western Digital, it's not so easy, as they now solder their drives directly to the PCB (and USB connector), and you can't just pull the drive out of the case and plug it into an adapter cable (bypassing the internal case PCB) to get to your data, when the PCB fails. You can see what I mean in this picture:





Perhaps in your case, we might be able to get our data recovery expert, @jumanji, to help us, if he is available.

Hi simrick,

The disc is from January 2011, there is a little more than 1.0 GB on the disk. There are youth pictures on the disk. I want to try to save as many as possible. But rather some pics than no pics. I have the drive connected to my PC with a LogiLink as shown in the attachment. CrystalDiskinfo list the disk as good. But I do think something had changed. When I made this post i could not see and volumes or partitions on the drive. If I look now in diskpart I do, this volume is however RAW. Can this be changed by running the partition tool?

This maybe change the situation as easeUS data recovery should be able to get data from this?

The OP had success with ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery). It's not free though. He also has a list of all the other programs he tried first.

This OP used Active@Partition to transfer his files.

There are a ton of threads on here with RAW problems. I still think MiniTool Partition Wizard would be my first try. If you can recover the partition, all else should be there.
