Windows 10: Can't detect External display issues for Surface 7 Pro laptop

I am using a external Microsoft multi-hub to connect Surface Pro to the Monitor HDMI. It was ok yesterday but I can't get external display today. The monitor is checked ok since I can plug my other laptop directly thru' HDMI. The Microsoft multi-hub is checked ok since I can use that to connect to the monitor HDMI with other laptop. Narrow down the problem possibly to the USB-C on my Surface Pro where I connect the Microsoft multi-hub. I use a USB-C cable to connect that port to my phone but it doesn't charge the phone. Is the USB-C port on my Surface Pro faulty?

Did you make any changes in the Display settings prior to this issue?

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the display drivers on the system from the manufacturing website and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Steps to uninstall the Display Drivers.

• Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.
• Click on “Device Manager” from that list.
• Search for the Display driver from the device list, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that
  and then remove the corrupted drivers from the computer.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and then restart the computer and install the latest driver from the manufacturer website.

Display isn't active - can't detect external displays

Hi,

I would suggest you try the below solutions one by one to fix the issue.

Solution 1 — Clear your display cache to fix display issues

If you’re having problems with your external monitor connected to your Surface Dock, try clearing your display cache:

Step 1:

Disconnect your Surface from the Surface Dock.

Step 2:

Download the Surface Dock registry file and open it.

Step 3:

Select and run surface dock registry.reg.

Step 4:

Click Yes to allow changes to your Surface > click OK.

Step 5:

Restart your Surface > reconnect it to the Surface Dock > test your external display.

Solution 2—Reset the dock and monitor

If you still can’t use your external monitor, try resetting it together with the dock:

Step 1:

Remove the Surface Connector from your Surface > plug it in again.

Step 2:

Unplug your Surface Dock from the power outlet > plug it in again.

Step 3:

Unplug your monitor from the power outlet > plug it back in.

Laptop display does not detect itself

Hi,

I only have 1 computer (the laptop) and 1 external monitor. The laptop cannot detect its own screen.

So when I follow your steps, this is what happens:

• Go to Settings. (Done)
• Click on System. (Done)
• Under System, choose Display. (Done)
• Under Multiple displays, click on Duplicate these displays and apply. (Done)
• But then I undock my laptop and redock. Re-login, etc.
• Only the external display turns on. The laptop does not turn on its own display. In order to get the laptop display to wake up, I need to follow steps 1-4 again. The settign "Duplicate these displays" does not seem to be retained.
