Windows 10: Can't disable touchpad

I do not like the touch pad. When I had Windows 8.1, I simply disabled it. But Windows 10 has a mind of it's own. I go into settings for touch pad and put a check mark where it says "disable touch pad". But as soon as I restart, the touch is enabled. I go where I put the check mark and it's gone--Windows just un-checked it. There are a couple of places where I can disable it, but upon restarting it goes back to where it was. I even went in Device Manager and disabled it there, but the same thing happens.

Disable the touchpad

I had Windows 7 and had to push the function button to disable the touchpad every time I "woke up" my computer; then I upgraded to WIndows 10 after which a notice and "ding" occurred that said "Your touchpad is disabled" so I no longer had to disable it
everytime I opened the computer, but now, today, suddenly the touchpad is working, no more notice, and now the function button to disable the touchpad doesn't work either so I can't disable the damned touchpad. I've gone into the "Mouse" section of the Control
panel, but there's nothing about disabling the touchpad there. Any ideas? Thanks!

 

Disabling Touchpad in W-10

Just upgraded to Microsoft 10 and now my once disabled touchpad is enabled again and can't figure out how to disabled it. Any suggestions?

Found answer. On ASUS, knew that toggling FN F9 disables/enables TouchPad use, but was not working after upgrading to MS 10. Upgraded TouchPad driver and FN F9 now working again.

 

Hi, silly question- do you have a little button just above your touch pad you can use to disable it? I have on my HP G60, noting you have an HP PC. (Sorry, not checked you particular laptop!)

 

On mine you press FN then F5 and that enables or disables the touch pad on my Toshiba

 

My laptop contains a touchpad by ELAN. The ELAN driver (and several versions of the Synaptics one as well) allows you to disable the touchpad in Control Panel > Mouse > ELAN > Disable, if an external USB mouse is found.

I checked that and it is working as expected.

 

The best way to be sure is to uninstall the driver completely.
Stop its running processes, then uninstall it, then remove its folder.
Use Microsoft tool to prevent Windows from updating drivers for it.

Silly question?? I do understand what the "little button" does as I have been using it for years. It will only set it so it doesn't work until you restart your computer. My "silly" question was how to disable it since I don't like it.

 

Thanks to every one for your response. I tried everything but nothing helped. I then discovered that it could be completely and permanently disabled in the registry. I did that and it took care of it.

 

So is this issue solved?

Thanks, appreciated. When people post problems it's not always clear what they've tried or what their experience is.. or what they've tried. Glad you found an solution that suited you- as noted above even uninstalling the driver won't work with Win 10 given MS's policy on driver updates- although I have read they are changing that, but only one source.

 

Yes, the issue is solved and here's what I did in the registry, but I suggest that if you are not familiar with editing the registry that you try to find another way. If you can edit the registry go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/SynTPEnh and on the right side you will see DisableIntPDFeature and change it's value to 33. If you don't see DisableIneIntPDFeature on the right side you will have to create a NEW DWORD and give it that name, then give it a value of 33. If you do this I would suggest that you back up the registry first as I have been know to make TYPOs especially when given the strange looking words in the registry. Have fun
