Windows 10: Can't disable Windows 11 Taskbar Peek / Thumbnail Preview. Changing Perfomence...

I cannot disable the Taskbar thumbnail previews in Windows 11. It's unclear whether this feature is a thumbnail preview or "peek" as provided for in the many, many, setting windows and it's help pages direct me to, none of which work. I am aware that the Group Policy Editor isn't included in Windows 11 Home edition, however there are hundreds of tech posts saying installing it is the resolution. I find that the policies included in GPEDIT relate only to windows 10 and prior versions indeed you can only filter by Win 10 downwards and have no effect on Windows 11. Why so many advise people to

Failed to disable Peek Preview in Windows 11

Hi, everyone!

To implement some custom fetatures I need to disable peek preview for the window. So I call DwmSetWindowAttribute with DWMWA_DISALLOW_PEEK set to True to disallow peek preview. It works well in Win7 and Win10 but in my newest Win11 machine, it sill shows peek preview when the mouse hovers over the window's thumbnail in the taskbar.

And I use a demo from VS2019 to reproduce this bug and still it works well in Window 7 and Window 10, but not in Windows 11.

I also read the SDK document and I don't find changes relevant to this behavior. Do I misuse this interface? If you know the right way to disable it, let me know plz~~

Steps to reproduce the bug

1. Open Visual Studio 2019 and New C++ Desktop Project.
   
2. With a built-in demo, disable peek preview with DwmSetWindowAttribute
   

1. Add link dependency dwmapi.lib
   
2. Compile and Run
   
3. Window shows but it still shows peek preview.
   

Expected behavior

No peek preview in Windows 11 22000.829

 

How do I change Taskbar icon preview from Thumbnail peek to List peek in Win 10 v 1703?

That's a 90% fix.

I followed the instructions and used the option to:

"type 0 (zero) it will effectively disable taskbar thumbnail previews,
and only show in list mode."

This works, but only if there is more than one instance of an item open. So if I have only one Explorer window open the peek preview will still be thumbnail. As soon as I open a second or more Explorer
window the preview peek switches to List. Same behavior for single to multiple instances of any other program in the taskbar - It's Thumbnail for one instance, List for multiple.

So when setting the Decimal value is set to 0, it acts like Threshold value 1.

I'm using Win 10 Pro. I'm wondering if there is an equivalent way to do this using Group Policy Editor, or is it just thorugh regedit?
