    Can't enable automatic login on win10 1909

I have two brand new desktop units purchased from Dell. These devices exclusively run Zoom room software, and need to be set up so that they log in automatically at power on or after a restart.

I applied the latest windows updates (currently at 1909) and I am unable to view or change the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this PC" setting that is located in the "netplwiz" or "control userpasswords2" areas of the control panel.

Everything I can find online says this setting was disabled by default in build 2004. However, I have this issue in 1909. Its reproducible on two machines. The information i've already researched seems to blame windows hello for this issue, but these desktops are incapable of using windows hello, so all the optins for it in the settings app are unavailable.

The suggestions I have found involve two registry changes to get around this.

The first is a legacy way of performing autologin that stores the password in plain text within the registry. I am not looking to do that.

The second is to disable windows hello from the "DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion" entry at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device" this was proven to show the desired setting in netplwiz on build 2004.

Unfortunately I don't have this registry key. I tried manually creating it and setting it to disabled, but that had no impact on the issue after a reboot.

I am wondering if anyone has been through this scenario, or has any suggestions that don't involve storing the password in plain text in the registry. This worked as expected in build 1809.

    laptop doesnt boot automatically

    This is what happened.

    1. Did a repair install and later disabled hibertnate in CMD.
    2. Enabled legacy option ROM in BIOS.
    3. After a few times startup ( i used the system in such mode for 5 days), changed boot option back to default.
    4. Vola!! It boots automatically to win10 without any keypress. Tested it with many starts to confirm the same.
    5. Re-enabled hibernate option using CMD and later selected Fast Startup.
    6. System booted normally, without the need for any keypress.

I do not know exactly whether such steps resolved the problem or what else happened, hence cannot suggest above steps.

Many thanks to all members who helped to troubleshoot problems.

User.000 issue after updating to 1909

I'm one of the many people suffering from issues with user profiles after applying Update 1909 to Windows 10. I've read all the threads I can find on the topic here and have followed the suggestions, all to no avail. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

After applying Update 1909, the ProfileImagePath was changed to c:\users\User.000
One file that was always in use and couldn't be removed was left in c:\users\User (can't recall or find the exact file now), so I could never rename or remove the c:\user\User directory.

I followed the multiple suggestions from Brink and others:
    • Rebooted at least 6 times
    • Enabled hidden Administrator
    • Booted into Safe Mode
    • Changed ProfileImagePath
    • Tried to rename c:\users\User but couldn't because a file was still in use
    • Copied all data from c:\users\User.000 into c:\users\User
    • Rebooted and had temporary profile
    • Followed steps in Brink tutorial to change ImageProfilePath; rebooted with no change
    • Restored using Restore Point from before Update 1909 - returned to single profile state (User.000)
    • Removed each update that was installed individually and rebooted after each update removal - profile state never changed
    • After all updates were removed, repeated the steps above with hidden Administrator, changing profile, etc. - same issue with file in use in c:\users\User
    • Followed all steps above with hidden Administrator but without copying files from User.000 to User - same results

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    Adaptive brightness automatically enables

Thanks for your reply but I already have stated that "One thing that I noticed is that after every startup adaptive brightness settings automatically enables (I tried to change it through advanced
power option and also from services using services.msc in the run)".

Kindly let me know why it automatically enables after every reboot and how to resolve this issue.
