    Can't encrypt files?


    I'm currently using windows 10 home and I went to encrypt a specific file by right clicking it then going to properties and hitting advanced but it is grayed out and I'm unable to click it, next I went to the Microsoft community to solve my problems and ran some code in the "Command Prompt" and rebooted my system but no result has changed, Next I went to regedit.exe then set the NftsDisableencryption from 0<1 and rebooted but still nothing has changed, I have some very valuable information that I'd like to protect and I'm tired of this not working. I need to change this urgently.

    Hi Iman,

    Error message 0x80071771 means that you need to restore the file encryption key in order for you to decrypt the encrypted files. On the other hand, you can still try these steps and see if it will work:

    • Right-click the file or folder that you want to decrypt.
    • Click File ownership and click Personal.

    Windows XP file encryption

    My suggestion to you is to look into what kind of encryption the program used, and look for a way to break that type of encryption. Sorry I can't say a specific program for sure.
