Windows 10: Can't erase Windows.old folder

I reset Windows in January. I thought that the Windows.old folder would self destruct after 10 days.

How an I get rid of it?

Each time Windows Update installs a major upgrade (like the recent Creators Update) a windows.old folder is created. This gives you an opportunity to roll back in case the upgrade is not working properly on your computer. If you leave it alone, the windows.old
folder will be automatically erased after 10 days have passed from the day your computer was upgraded.

 

How to remove 'windows.old' folder during reinstallation of windows 10

Hi,

Recently my PC was infected with malware. I tried to erase the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 10 using a recovery USB. During the re-installation I chose to 'fully clean the drive' and 'clear the computer's Trusted Platform Module'. However, after
the rebuilt the 'Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool' did not run; I found the 'windows.old' folder still remained and the TDsskiller scan found 3 threats similar to those found just before the rebuild. So I suppose the re-installation using the recovery
USB did not erase the malware and I guess the malware might be left in the 'windows.old' folder. I would like to know how to remove the 'windows.old' folder during the re-installation of windows 10. Alternatively my question is how to do a bit-by-bit reformatting
so that any malware will be completely erased.

Whilst waiting for a reply I thought I would have a go with EMCO's Move on boot. That did it, albeit in two parts.
It removed most of the file's contents but left the file folder behind. Strange. But I was able to delete it by the normal method of right clicking on it etc.
