Windows 10: Can't find my documents on external drive everything else is there

My C Drive died I had set my documents folder to default to the D drive because c was a very small drive. I pulled it out of the old computer and enclosed the D drive and connected it a new Dell inspiron 16 with intel 7 windows 11 pro and opened the hard drive and it showed a almost a terabyte used but not one personal document, video or picture.. just downloads and gaming stuff ... looked in all user accounts. I had procession and full rights. I then took the other drive that I had just for a project and took procession of it it was fine and after I plugged the D drive back in it said th

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

External drives using true Sata connection?

While I did not choose the route of using an external case+usb drive, I appreciate the responses as I now understand what to look for if I need a cheaper alternative to making use of an old internal drive.

Related to this query was my decision between external drives and a NAS box.
