Can't ftp after switching from fixed to wifi network connection

I am using a laptop which has ethernet and wifi network connections.
The fixed connection is in the 192.168.1.X subnet (Ip address is set static in the router)
The wifi connection is in the 192.168.2.X subnet (Ip address is set static in the router).

    This is the scenario:
I use the laptop with either the ethernet or wifi network connections being
active at any one time., with ethernet being used most . Sometimes I need to do
an ftp file transfer from the laptop to an android mobile phone. For the
ftp transfer, I go into adapter settings on the laptop, disable ethernet connection, enable
wifi connection and use some ftp server on the android and client on the laptop.

After enabling wifi connection, I check the ip addresses of the laptop and android - they are
correct/router has assigned the ip addresses, BUT I just can't connect via ftp - what knowledge
am I missing to understand why this is failing/is there something more I need to reset due to
    changing network connections ?

Also, would appreciate a clarification - could both the ethernet and wifi connections be active at the same time on the laptop, if so / how does one identify which is to be used ?

    :)

  2. wifi connection

    Hi Karloi, Andrea,

Experiencing issues with WiFi connection may have something to do with the device driver, the WiFi switch may be turned off, or possible that the wireless adapter has been disabled. To help us determine what may have caused this problem, we suggest running
the Network troubleshooter. Follow these steps:

    • In the Cortana search, type in Troubleshoot and click it in the search result.
    • In the right pane, click Network Adapter.
    • Click Run the troubleshooter.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.

  3. Unable to establish an FTP connection

I have been unable to successfully make an FTP connection to a server using an FTP client in Windows 10. With FileZilla, I get the error message

"Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity

    "Could not connect to server"

    and with Cyberduck, I see

    "Connection failed

"Connection timed out: connect. The connection attempt was rejected. The server may be down, or your network may not be properly configured."

The connection is to allow me to manage a website, and I have done it many times, including I think from this Windows 10 computer.

The Network Diagnostics in Cyberduck simply said:

    "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"

    I’ve done the following

    • checked the Cyberduck and FileZilla settings and procedures against their help pages
    • contacted the webhost, who confirmed that there is no problem their end and I should have access
    • tested the connection for myself with www.net2ftp.com
    • contacted my broadband supplier, who confirmed that there are no issues with the router that may affect FTP
    • added Cyberduck and FileZilla to the exclusions in
      • Windows Defender
      • Malwarebytes
      • Windows Firewall
I can’t think of anything else. Any suggestions?

  4. Can't ftp after switching from fixed to wifi network connection

    Problem switching WiFi networks

I have two WiFi networks in my home to address distance problems. I'm using a Lumia 1020 running OS version 8.10.14157.200 / Lumia Cyan. When moving from an area served by Network 1 to an areas served by Network 2, the phone doesn't always switch to the
stronger network, In fact, it "holds onto" Network 1 even if the sign strength barely registers on the phone. I have waited multiple minutes for it to switch to Network 2 but most of the time I have to switch it manually in order to get it to switch to the
stronger network. This was not a problem until I upgraded to 8.1.

I have tried switching off/on Wi-Fi Sense and Share Wi-Fi networks and all of the networks I want are listed under "Manage." All of the networks are selected "Connect Automatically" so that isn't the problem either.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
