Windows 10: Can't get a PS/2 keyboard to work using a USB adaptor

Trying to add a PS/2 keyboard to my new HP Z2 and not having much luck.I have a PS/2 to USB adaptor I got cheap on ebay, no idea if I need anything special or not. Maybe it doesn't work right with USB3, who knows.Windows 11 sees there's a USB device but the "Device Descriptor Request Fails" which doesn't surp

Which is better for keyboards: USB or PS/2?

PS/2 always works. I've never met a PS/2 keyboard/computer (that had a PS/2 jack) that didn't work. I've had a lot of USB hiccups though--especially related to accessing the BIOS.

I used to use a PS/2 + VGA KVM but have moved to DVI + VGA + USB + Audio KVM. The KVM is the only reason why I switched to USB. I still often have to break out the PS/2 keyboards though for ornery computers (e.g. good luck getting USB to work on a Windows 95 computer).

The only thing I can suggest is to reboot the machine with the keyboard plugged in...

I have had mixed results when attempting to use a PS\2 to USB adapter...

Some work perfect, some don't work at all, and others somewhere in between...

Some of them will work for a mouse, but not a keyboard, and others just the opposite...

 

PS/2 keyboard not working

Question:- does a laptop keyboard use PS/2 interface or other?

My problem:- PS/2 desktop keyboard has stopped working; reseated PS/2 connection - same problem. The computer knows when keys are pressed because the speakers issue a click BUT characters aren't forthcoming.

WORKAROUND

Start the virtual keyboard and hey-presto - the physical keyboard springs into life (you can tell because the caps-lock light suddenly starts working.)

Really weird. The PS/2 mouse is fine. To cut our losses I'll try a USB keyboard tomorrow.
