Windows 10: Can't get file sharing working between host pcwindows 10 and guestwindows 10

Basically, I have a windows 10 running on a virtualbox vm. I have file sharing enabled on both pc's, I have firewall disabled on both pc's and guest machine is visible in host machine's network tabbut can't access it for some reason, says that it was not found but host machine is not visible from guest machine.So far I have tried:Making sure SMB1 is enabled on both pc'sDisabling firewall on both pc'sClearing DNS cache on both machines and disabling/re-enabling network adaptersSetting some services to start automaticallyMaking sure guest additions is installed on guest machinebut it still doe

Hosts file editing

I have to jump in and say I use, and have used the host file for years. It's an easy way to take stress off of old name servers. I don't add everything, but major shares I do add to the host file. I've used the host file for some tunneling as well. I try to optimize my network as much as possible and I have a solid network. But Easy Rhino is right as well, you'll want to have everything he suggested as well. *Toast :toast:

I could not help but notice in step 1 you say to enable " Function Discovery Resource Publication "

In most of the posts I have read on Ten Forums they also suggest to enable " Function Discovery Provider Host "

Are you suggesting that Function Discovery Provider Host is not necessary.

 

Hosts File Alias not working with File Share


I can set an alias in the hosts file on a win7 machine and access it just fine but doing the same in Win10 prompts for creds that never work even when entered correctly.
What did win10 change?

hosts file entry:
127.0.0.1 hostname alias

\\ip - works fine
\\hostname -works fine
\\alias - Prompts for creds and creds don't work

I have gone to the extent of fully disabling UAC from reg, same outcome. Network and file sharing is set to password access and not homegroup. Simple file sharing is off.

Something to note. I always disable ipv6 form the adapter but when I ping my hostname it shows the ipv6 loopback. Why is that?
When I ping the alias it returns 127.0.0.1 ipv4 loopback that was entered in the hostname.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
