    Hi!

That's why I asked because a W10 32 bit version can't handle the memory. W10 32 bit will run on a 64 bit system hardware.

Install W10 32 bit after 64 bit installation?

I upgraded my computer from W8 32 bit to W10 64 bit to take advantage of my installed 6 GB RAM instead of being limited to 4 GB RAM under the old system.

Now that I have upgraded, I find that running my 32 bit Turbocad program I run out of RAM memory when I render a drawing. I have since found out that W10 64 bit limits 32 bit programs to 2 GB.

Would the installation of a dual boot 32/64 bit OS allow me to run the program and access more RAM?

If so, I upgraded to W10 64 bit by uploading the free installation program. How would I install a 32 bit OS?

  4. cant get GSP money matters to run on 64 bit W10 but ok on 32 bit

just had a reply from avanquest
GSP Money Matters is a 32 bit program compatible with computer operating systems Windows XP and Vista.

so any help to get this running in W10 64 bit would be appreciated ( works in W10 32 bit perfectly without any compatibility modes)
    thanks

Have you tried to install it in compatibility mode?

Right click on the installer, select "Troubleshoot compatibility" then "Troubleshoot program", select "This program worked in earlier versions of Windows..." and then chose XP and "Test the program"..

If that doesn't work then note XP mode doesn't exist any more in windows 10 - you would have to make a VM.

  6. thanks tried compatibility mode with all versions, also troubleshooting and that failed also, didn't realise XP mode not available in W10.....is there a tutorial for setting up a VM.....and do you think this would work ?
    thanks

I think Hyper-V is only available in 10 Pro so you would probably be best off using VMware. See here for installing 10 as a VM but installing XP is the same VMware Player - Install Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

You can download a free XP virtual machine from Microsoft (I'll have a look for the link and update this). These machines expire after 90 days though so you would have to make a snapshot after the install and revert back every 3 months if you don't have a XP key.

Ah well then I'd use Hyper-v - I looked at your specs and thought they said home - sorry about that.

The tutorial for Hyper-V is here and you can download a XP virtual machine from here and import it (once you have added Hyper-V through Windows features and created your Virtual Switch).

When you download the VM chose IE8 on XP for the virtual machine and Hyper-V for the platform. Don't forget it will expire after 90 days (if you don't have a XP key) so install your software and then make a snapshot. If you do this you can keep on restoring back and it will work forever but you must save the data from your program somewhere before restoring of course.

  10. looked at the tutorial for hyper V......quite a procedure....so if I wanted to install another OS under Hyper V I assume I would need a product key for that OS......which will not be an issue.....surprised MS worries about an XP key nowadays, had heard there was a generic one released by MS for free use, but could be wrong....
when I installed money matters on the W10 32 bit laptop.....windows told me it needed to install a 'feature' no idea what that was, but it installed cuter the ' feature ' was installed.......W10 64 bit machine did not offer this, just got the yellow box saying couldn't be installed on this OS ( or something similar)

Creating a VM really isn't a huge procedure - it just looks like it - don't be discouraged, it is easy and you can always ask if you get stuck *Smile

You just enable Hyper-V in Windows features, reboot, then open Hyper-V manager and create a virtual external switch taking all the defaults. Then either import the VM you downloaded (or create one from an installation ISO).

Then you are basically done so from within the VM install your money matters software and make a snapshot.

  12. what do make of windows 10 installing a ' feature' on my Windows 10 32 bit laptop, because it wouldn't install before that....

cant get GSP money matters to run on 64 bit W10 but ok on 32 bit

Possibly an old version of .NET

Windows Live Mail (which I use) installs the .NET framework 3.5 feature when you run the installer as it isn't installed by default on Windows 10. I can't think what else it would install.

  14. an update.....using VMware got it to run perfectly on a virtual XP OS, problem solved....VMware so much easier to use than hyper V
