When I go Settings>Windows Security, "Virus & threat protection" shows the message "Actions recommended." When I click on "Virus and ..." I get the message that I need to get an app to open Windows Defender. No such app exists.I have seen that there is a fix to this by opening Powershell as an admin. 2. how to reinstall windows defender?

The system is infected by miners and other malware, which have deleted your Defender executables completely. A repair installation is suggested.

Before that, please do the following:

    • Save Fixlist.txt in the same folder where EnglishFRST64.exe is.
    • Close all program windows.
    • Launch the Farbar Scanner tool and click "Fix".
    • Upload the output log file (FixLog.txt) to your OneDrive.

Once done, repair Windows 10. See How to perform an In-place Upgrade with Windows 10 Step-by-Step Guide - Microsoft Community:

    Windows Defender problem

    Hi Ernst,

To troubleshoot this issue, we suggest that you check the Windows Defender service if it's running. If you are using a third party spyware/malware program, it may disable the Windows Defender service. To do this, please follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows + R key.
    • Type services.msc.
    • Right-click Windows Defender service and click
      Start.

    Let us know the result.
