Windows 10: Can't get MSI Gaming Laptop to boot.

I have an MSI GE-62 Apache Pro that boots off a 256 GB SSD with a 1 TB HD for other storage. I hadn't had it on in a while (a couple weeks), and now I can't get it to boot past the MSI logo.


Using the delete key I can boot into BIOS fine. But I've tried getting to the Advanced Startup Options screen by spamming F3, F8, and F11 during startup to no avail. F11 does nothing. When I spam F8 and will bring up the usual MSI loading screen, say "Preparing Automatic Repairs" and then after a minute the border of a window will flash on the screen for a split second, then the screen just goes black and the computer goes to sleep.

When I press F3 on startup it does the same thing as F8 but instead it says "Please Wait"

After it goes to sleep the screen is on, just black, and i can hear the fans and hard drives running. I don't know what else to try.


If i can't get it on, can I still use a Windows boot drive to startup and recover files and then do a clean install?


The computer came with Windows 7 but i upgraded to Windows 10. I've read other MSI laptops have similar issues with Windows 10. Would there be a way to recover files, then revert back to Windows 7 or 8?

MSI bios boot logo (frozen?)

I don’t think I see an option to do that. I checked both boot and advance settings. On the top shows “aptio setup utility” and I think it’s ver 1.4 since I see it in advance settings. But other than splash screen option, I don’t see it. :/
Maybe I should update bios if available?

If you have any USB device connected, disconnect for now.
Go into BIOS:

1. At boot time, the BIOS is checking for all devices attached to the PC, turn off the MSI boot logo under boot menu so you can see the text displayed of each step and note which device is hanging.
2. Under Advance->Windows 8/8.1/10: Enable MSI Fast Boot so that BIOS will bypass checking most devices that are none essential for booting. This will improve the boot process. Note that this is different from fast boot that you set in Windows.

Some third party drivers that you downloaded from the MSI website might not be up to date, try to download the latest driver(s) from the original manufacturers such Intel Chip Set, Network driver etc....
