Can't get Panasonic Viera TV to recognize home wifi?

    For DNS settings, try Google
    8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

    or OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

I was thinking about this earlier - not sure what increments your modem/router assigns IP addresses, so maybe try 10.0.0.21 if "20" doesn't work. Some assign in multiples of 10, some just +1 increments. If you try to assign an IP address that's already assigned to something else, you could run into difficulty. Just have to play around with that last octet.

I'll try those setting later in the day. But to give a little more info that might be helpful:

When running the first set of numbers you suggested (with IP mode manual and DNS mode manual-as i couldn't make it automatic when I in automatic,) the error message was "Unable to set IP correctly." Also, when running IP mode in automatic (with your settings there but greyed out, no gateway setting showing, and DNS greyed with no settings showing,) I got the original message...homenetwork OK, can't access IP, check connections and settings.

You're sure this thing has a wireless network adapter in it? Because if it doesn't ask for the SSID, it's not trying to connect wirelessly. That tells me it's looking for a wired connection. I have a Panasonic (older model) and am unable to get a wired connection to it from my router because they are in different rooms. So I had to set up an AP (Access Point), and then hard-wire from there to the TV. Some people have wireless DVD/BD players, which they use to then send the signal to the TV.

I can't find anything in your user manual that says it has a wireless network adapter.

They show you need a repeater on this page. Do you have one of those in your setup? (page 29)

It's a Comcast (Xfinity) gateway 3-in-1. All customers that have phone are required to rent this because it also contains an EMTS (phone) & router (wired & wireless) & modem.
I've tried to configure them before but they can be stubborn.
I don't have their phone so have my own modem & router.
    Gateway address is 10.1.10.1
SSID & password are printed on the Gateway.

Thanks for that info - I figured it was that model. *Smile
But, from his computer configuration, his gateway is 10.0.0.1.
Still, if his TV is not looking for an SSID, and the instructions show wired connection only - he's never gonna connect wirelessly, unless he has an AP/Repeater, or some other way to get a wired connection to the ethernet port on the TV.

  6. That's an address they usually use for business & not home, but looks like they now use it for home.
It's Comcrap, their install techs know almost nothing. I watched one take over 3 hrs to plug in & configure one of these gateways, there was no wiring necessary. When he left, it still didn't work right.

Page 64 of the manual, it is a wired lan, RJ45. no wifi. Further states it is needed for Viera cast. Please check printed copy of manual that you have and confirm.

I read first post. That said, when did issue start. Were you with one supplier and then switched or was this a physical move.

You can purchase wifi network adapters that plug into Lan port. Did original supplier remove any gear around TV.

The connection is outlined on page 29, bottom of page. If this resembles your connection and gear is still their then it is the wireless device that has to have the SSID / Password changed and you can reset panels in TV. Note where wire is plugged in TV and trace to gear. We need its model make so we can direct you on its set up.

    Confirmed, that's my manual.

I believe that the issue started maybe a year or two ago when Comcast disconnected the modem and router I had at that time and replaced it with their Arris TG1682G combined modem/router. However, as I didn't use vieracast again until a couple of days ago--it didn't work, this problem was just noted now. BUT, the problem may be related to something I just did to my setup.

I'm thinking (and as I really have a problem with networking and wireless, I can be entirely off base) that vieracst was originally working because I had the following setup which was recently changed. I have a dongle in my Panasonic bluray player BP85 and the player is connected to the TV via hdmi. Choosing the BP85's input on the TV, my original router may have allowed for vieracast through the BP85's dongle??? This setup was changed when I recently got an Amazon Firestick.

As I couldn't readily get to one of the TV's open hdmi slots (and being lazy, to boot,) I unhooked the BP85's hdmi cable and attached the Firestick to that cable. Of course, I could reattach the hdmi cable to the BP, set the TV's input to the the BP's input slot and see what happens??? But, I think I'll just wait to see what you guys have to say about this before monkeying with the cables.

BTW, I'm also having a problem getting the computer to communicate with the Firestick. As the Firestick works fine, indicating that its connection to the modem/router is OK, I believe that my computer isn't properly on the wireless network...one of my can't get it right problems. I need communication between the Firestick and the computer because the Firestick needs some computer settings in order to get certain programs.

  10. That is a fair bit to digest but very informative.

I don't believe Vieracast got to the network through HDMI cable, there is no protocol for passing IP that I am aware of. That said if the Blueray player was wireless and connected you could have been pulling internet content through blueray and passed it up to TV.

While plugging in your Blueray would provide a test it is not end state configuration so it will be disconnected. That said if it works you may wish to come up with a different end state (buy buddies some beer and pizza and lift TV off wall, make connections, LOL)

If you look at page 29 you will see roughly where Lan port is located. Is anything plugged in to the port. A wireless adapter / dongle doesn't have to be very big.

Just so we all have a common understanding of end state goal, do you need vieracast and firestick or do you just have to get one operational?

  12. Cool. Yes your blueray became wireless with dongle. When you say you can see the Lan port, if you can see it on TV then it sounds like nothing is plugged in. It forms a hole that you can easily feel.

So lets move on to getting Windows and Firestick talking. I'm going to have to research Firesticks or maybe one of the other members will jump in.

First the computer, is it wired or wireless to router. You said in an earlier post you didn't think it was hooked up right. What do you think is wrong?

If wireless could you please follow these instructions and post the resulting text file.

    At a command prompt(admin)

    Netsh wlan show all
(produces report on wireless. Once output is produced, click in command window, then Crtl + A, then open Notepad and Crtl + C to paste. Save and close text file. Post text file.)

We're in the same time zone, I'll read about firesticks in the am.

Can't get Panasonic Viera TV to recognize home wifi?

Why are you trying to connect the FireStick to the computer? What are you trying to accomplish?

If the computer and the FireStick are on the same LAN, and your computer is on a "private network" designation, the FireStick will show up in Control Panel>Devices and Printers.

If one is connected at 5GHz, and the other at 2.4GHz, they will never see each other.

  15. Did my reading on Fire Sticks and agree with simrick, nothing in instructions has connecting to computer just network.

My turn for question, why if they are using different bands can't they see one another? Doesn't Amazon consider it one Lan, the router does. Does the Firestick establish a connection directly to the Computer.

    Thanks
