Windows 10: Can't get to login screen - screen goes black first

My computer boots to the startup screen with the time displayed, etc. I used to click the screen to access the login prompt. Now, when I click the screen, the screen goes black, but with a mouse cursor. I've tried using a mouse, the touchscreen, and also the space bar to get the login screen to appear, but all fail.After a couple minutes, the screen reappears, but I still can't get to the login prompt.I also can't CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to the task manager/ shutdown menu, nor can I shut down via a long press of the power button.At this point I can't login or shutdown.

Black Screen after Log on

Laptop or Desktop (Very important) Windows 10 build 14.586 has a very annoying BUG: That causes Black Screen after login:
To date there is no cure until Microsoft send Update to fix the problem: OK here goes: When you Login and the Screen Goes Black ==>
Go to your Function Keys for Screen Brightness Chose to Lighten the Screen (This will make the screen Bright) so that you can view it.
The BUG is that they reversed (via Software) what the Brightness button does -- So it is currently reversed -- "Lighten" makes it Dark -- "Darken" makes it Bright ==> Go figure Microsoft screw the pooch on this one. . . .

This is for LAPTOP -- I have never seen this on Desktops but they are fixed rather than adjustable

 

Black screen after login in

You can try the following steps to fix black screen after login in caused by KB5022360:

1. Boot into Safe Mode
   
2. Uninstall the problematic update (KB5022360)
   
3. Restart your computer normally
   
4. Check if the black screen issue has been resolved.
