Windows 10: Can't get Wifi to turn on on Laptop. Works on old HDD Windows install but not on new SSD...

Hi everyone, I am having an issue with a Samsung N270e5g-K03MX. I recently changed the HDD for a an SSD with a fresh Windows 10 install. When I booted up for the first time, it asked for a wifi connection to download some initial drivers. Once it was done, I plugged in an ethernet cord and downloaded all the Windows updates. They all finished well and I turned off the laptop. Next day, turning on the laptop and trying to connect to the Wifi, I noticed that my wifi was turned off. Trying to turn it on via the Taskbar did not succeed so I entered the Wifi page in Network settings. It indicated that it was off. Trying to turn it on just makes the switch bar turn itself back to Off instantly. I tried various methods of troubleshooting the device:

• Running the Windows troubleshooter says that a physical Wifi switch is turned off. The laptop has no physical switch to control Wifi.
• Tried disabling and re-enabling in Device management, uninstalling and scanning for hardware changes in Device Manager.
• Downloaded the manufacturer driver for the WLAN card through the Samsung Update app and tried installing it over the Window driver but that did not work.
• Uninstalled the WLAN driver and did a fresh install of it, it reports the device is working but still can not turn on Wifi
• Went into power management tab in its hardware properties and turned off "Allow the computer to turn off the Device to save power", still cant turn it on
• Opened up the laptop again to look for an internal switch but the WLAN card is part of the Mobo and I saw no indication of a physical switch

Here is the interesting part, I thought maybe the WLAN card failed and popped in the old HDD to test if it was a driver or hardware issue. On the HDD, the Wifi started up perfectly and did not have any issues. Swapping back to the new SDD has the Wifi turn on during the first use but it eventually turns itself off and does not allow itself to be turned on. I took note of which driver version it is running, the old HDD is running V. 3.0.2.201 of the WLAN driver while the SDD is running 10.0.0.321. Unfortunately, the Samsung Update app does not allow me to download an older version of the driver.

I don't know what else to do to get the Wifi working. The only "Switch" I see is the Fn command on the F12 key but I have not been succesful in getting it to work as Windows update did not download the keyboard driver and the Samsung Update version fails to install as it does not support a Windows 10 install, only Vista to 8.1 (This laptop originally had Windows 8 and was upgraded to 10 on the HDD)

Any ideas?

Copying Windows 10 to new SSD from existing HDD while upgrading to SSD from HDD.

Hi,

I'm thinking about updating my 2 years old laptop from HDD to SSD. Since my HDD is still in working condition, I plan to use it as an external HDD. I have a pre-installed Windows 10 Home on my laptop.
Is it possible for me to transfer it to the new SSD while upgrading? If then please tell me the steps to follow.

Windows 10 Installation to new SSD while keeping old HDD

Installed a new SSD, so my PC now has two drives. Have been running Windows 10 on the old HDD. I want to install Windows 10 on the new SSD. Using the Windows ISO DVD I made there is no choice where to install WIndows 10. I am not sure how to remove Windows
10 from the old HDD and install it on the SSD to speed up boot.

I read where you cannot remove Windows 10 from the original HDD. Not sure if that is true.

 

If I install a new SSD and reinstall Windows there, will the new Windows installation recognize my old HDD and SSD?

I am going to be upgrading my computer soon, and as part of that upgrade I will get a new SSD where I will reinstall Windows to.

I want to be able to use and access the data on my old HDD and old SSD from this new Windows installation.

Will Windows recognize the installation and let me access the data on the old drives?
