Windows 10: Can't get WOL to work

    Can't get WOL to work


    In spite of the following I still can't get WOL to work: any suggestions please?

    Action taken:-
    1. TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper checked and Startup type set to ‘Automatic’.
    2. Network and Sharing Center->Change adapter settings->network adapter->Properties->Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP)->Properties
    a. Advanced->WINS tab->NetBIOS Settings->Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
    3. Device Manager>Network Adapters > motherboard network adapter > Advanced tab
    "Energy Efficient Ethernet" and "Green Ethernet" value set to disabled.
    4. “Power Options” in “Control Panel”-> “Choose what the power buttons do” Clear the “Turn on fast startup (recommended)” check box.
    5. All settings saved and PC restarted.
    In (2) above, there is no option on my setup for "Energy Efficient Ethernet". "Green Ethernet" set to ‘Disabled’.

    Windows10 build 1709 WOL now fails

    I truly appreciate your effort to try and help on this. However, it's a bit like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. WOL is such a simple piece of software I find it difficult to think that a downgrade of the whole O/S could be effective. In any
    case, what you're suggesting amounts to hours of frustrating work and, frankly, just to get WOL working simply isn't worth it.

    Thanks again for taking an interest but I'll just have to live without WOL for now.

    Wake On Lan does not work anymore after installation of KB3199209

    I recently ran into this problem after a windows update also. I double checked everything, different Ethernet cables, different nic, and even tried installing older drivers, and still can't get WOL to work. It's driving me nuts.

    Have you poked around your interface settings for specific WOL items? Here, for example, is what I see on my production desktop:

    If you're lucky, you'll be able to manage this stuff explicitly. Just for the record what NIC are you using on the problem PC?

    Hey oldcelt,
    Have you checked if Simple TCPIP Services is installed/running and if your firewall has an inbound rule for UDP Port 9 ?

    Yes, the WinAero stuff could also be quite helpful, if the blockage is because of communications issues, rather than device or interface configuration issues. Nice call, Eagle 51, and a good resource to go with it.

    Have you checked to make sure Wake on LAN is enabled in the BIOS? Also the wake on magic packet is enabled on the Ethernet driver?

    All advice given in the link - How to use wake on LAN on Windows 10 has been followed to the letter!

    Still no joy.

    The PC has a Gigabyte Ultra durable 3 motherboard and the BIOS does not have a 'Wake on LAN' setting - I've been through every item meticulously.

    Thanks Ed - our time zone difference makes our conversation pretty drawn out. I'll have a look at that in the morning. What's strange is that it was working fine until I reinstalled Windows 10. That shouldn't have altered anything in the BIOS.
