    Can't have Windows search files on other drives

    Hello, I have several partitions beyond the C: where Windows and programs are installed. I store my data on D:, E: and F: drives, but those can't be searched, which renders the Windows search function virtually useless.

    For some reason only the C: partition is recognized by the indexing service, so its files are the only ones being retrieved in a search from the start menu.

    Under the indexing options, I see "144.000 items indexed", then a list below "index these places:"

    • C:
    • Start menu
    • Microsoft Outlook

    But the D: drives and beyond are nowhere to be added.

    Some details:

    • Windows search service is active and running;
    • I already tried rebuilding the index;
    • The owner of the C: drive is TrustedInstaller, while the owner of drives D to F: is me;
    • I'm currently running Version 1903 build 18362.356;
    • I already tried to “allow all files on this drive to be indexed” under the drives' properties;
    • Under the “indexing options” in the control panel, I see what you see in the following picture (the options shown in Portuguese can be straightforwardly told by position).

    Any thoughts?
    P.s. this is rebooted question, but before I was using a prior Windows version which took me long to update, so the topic went cold. The details above are up-to-date.

    :)

    Stored files in Hard Drive

    You can use Windows search. Just search for *.* on a desired drive. When list is done just arrange them by size LOL.

    You can do it via command line as well and make an output text file showing files and their sizes (but without arrangement)

  3. 2nd Drive Files not Showing in Quick search

    Hi all,

    Background: I'm running Windows 10, anniversary update; with two physical drives, each also shown as a logical volume (C and D).

    Issue: When searching from the Start menu, files on my C drive show up, however the ones on D do not.

    Troubleshooting I have done so far:

    • Verify that the 2nd Drive (D) has indexing enabled
    • Verify that the folders on the drive also have indexing enabled
    • Rebuild index
    • The files DO appear when searching the 2nd drive via Windows Explorer, but NOT through the start search
    Is this a known issue, and what steps can I take to resolve this?
