Windows 10: Can't install "2020-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 & 1909 for x64-based...

Hello,


I'm having trouble installing the following update.


2020-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems KB4574727


Windows update downloaded the 1903 version of this update, and failed, so I went to the catalog.update.microsoft.com site, and downloaded the 1909 version for this update. However it too failed to install.


Event viewer's Setup log shows the following error:


Windows update "Update for Windows KB4574727" could not be installed because of error 2147943005 "The specified buffer contains ill-formed data." Command line: ""C:\WINDOWS\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\windows10.0-kb4574727-x64_3874e5f283185dab47b6564674946a5122d4a05c.msu" "


System Log shows:


Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8007025D: Update for Windows KB4574727.



Now worryingly, if I select the "Details" tab - the whole Event Viewer disappears....


I've scanned my system using "Avast" which has the latest updates - no issues reported.


I also tried reinstalling the update with "Avast" disabled. Exactly the same errors, and exactly the same crash of Event Viewer when trying to view the details of each error.


I think there's two log files within: C:\Windows\Logs\DPX

that may contain some further details, however I can't open them file in use so will try to access from a Safe Mode Commandline prompt.


Any thoughts as to what's going on ?


The PC is old - basic specs:


Motherboard: ASRock G41C-GS with Intel Core 2 Extreme Q6850 and 8GB DDR3 RAM and 64 GB Free disk space on the C drive partition, and NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT graphics card.

Please can you download the update from the Update Catalog site and install.

Choose to download the last one on the list which should be Version 1903 for x64-based Systems.

Hello!

I've been trying to fix windows update but it says:

"2020-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64-based Systems (KB4574727) - Error 0x80073712"

"Status: Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x80073712)"

I have also tried doing the catalog wherein it needs to install windows update standalone and also have restarted.

What to do?

all have failed. I have attempted using many of the suggested fixes to no avail. The most recent attempt were the fixes shown on this page. Always fails at steps 6 to 7; goes to restart.
