Windows 10: Can't install/activate .NET 3.5 on Win 10 Pro. Error code 0x80072EE6

I have NO IDEA what that error code is, and neither does Microsoft, if all efforts at searching are any indication.


YES, I HAVE tried direct install from the offline installer.

YES, I HAVE tried the control panel trick.
I get the SAME ERROR CODE every time!


This is a new install on a custom-built PC. I want to run a program that requires 3.5 and Windows won't let me install it.

Possibly there can be the problem with Microsoft activation Server, so your Windows 10 is not activated. In this scenario, you need to wait and verify if it is the issue from Microsoft’s side. But if you are getting error code 0x803f7001, you can also try these steps:

1. Open Settings app. Then go to Update and security > Activation screen > Change product.
2. Type your Windows edition product key and click Next.
3. You’ll get We couldn’t activate Windows error message.
4. Retry steps 1-3 then type your 25-characters unique product key.
5. Wait for the process to complete, Windows 10 is activated.

OK, the Windows 10 Feature installation method should have been straightforward, but since that errored out as well, something else seems to be going on with your Windows, so wait for somebody with more experience to suggest a way out.
