Windows 10: Cant install Intel RST program

Thats exactly right , i did the same with the latest Intel Rapid storage drivers and then just tested with the MS version/ AHCI enabled and i have noticed no differences between them. Non Raid, and yes, lots of these drivers show 2006 , they do work surprisingly well though.

 

Guys, I'm on an AsRock z68 extreme4 gen3. The platform is too "old" to support new drivers made for windows 10, so I installed the ones that worked on Windows 7 and 8, to enable RST. The issue is the following. For some reason, enabling RST doesn't give ANY performance boost, the hard drive is even a little faster when using AHCI with no RST. The RST works on RAID only, if I'm right. Can you give some suggestion, please? Thanks in advance. *Smile

Not sure I understand what the issue is but from looking at Asrock's website it supports Win 8 so I assume they just didn't bother to update it but I see no reason why it shouldn't accept to run Win 10.

Regarding RST, don't expect a performance benefit just by installing it. It offers some services but on a non-raid system it can't do much for you besides that.
So, if you don't see any benefit from it why load it which, as you witnessed yourself, is only a source of extra overhead.

Wait, I've enabled it, not only installed it. I've enabled acceleration through the Intel rapid storage software.. Seems that when I'm on raid, with no acceleration the drive goes at about 50MBps in read and write, with acceleration in raid makes 100MB in read and 50 in write, with AHCI and no acceleration at all it does 110MBps in read and 100 in write.. Could it be a driver issue?

I still don't get it.
When configured as a raid (what type of raid ?) volume you obtain 50 Mb/s R/W using what drivers exactly ?
Then, you set up RST and obtain 100Mb/50Mb/s R/W.
Next you stop RST and measure the performance again but using standard AHCI drivers (as opposed to what exactly ?) and it measures 110Mb/100Mb/s R/W.

Besides that I still don't understand why you'd need to mix all these drivers form various OSs to make things work under Win 10 as AFAIK Win 10 does support this Z68 chipset or if them not then Intel does and that would only be for the raid volume.

Thanks for replying. Anyway I'm working on it, and I got new drivers working with no problems on z68. I've installed them through device manager, choosing the folder where I extracted them. In few words, before I had strange performances, RAID destroyed performances in general. Now seems to work at least normally, I'm searching a good benchmark software that could test the read performance (since intel rapid storage as I set it, boosts read only, for data safety).

Read speeds are always going to be higher than writes. That's to be expected.
The figures you obtain with the AHCI drivers enables seem to be pretty much what you'd expect from a typical HD.

When doing a clean install using Win 10 it quite often does not carry all drivers "on board" so to speak. Yet if you update them manually using online search it often finds most of them and installs them.

I'm testing startup times, and they seem pretty identical if I keep acceleration on or off.. Sad thing. Doesn't seem to boost anything.. But the rapid storage software reports like if all works like it should..

BTW, if you're after speed I'd really recommend SSD drives. That speeds up just about any PC or portable to amazing levels.
They're getting cheaper as we speak too. *Cool

I already use an ssd, but as cache for Intel rapid storage technology. It is an old Samsung 830, 64GB, accelerating a Western digital 3TB drive.

Didn't Intel offer software to do just that ? Could be that only worked with Intel SSD though.

Wouldn't you obtain better performance overall by installing the OS on the Samsung drive instead of using it as a cache ?

Fair enough. My sotware demands are quite a bit more modest.
I cram everything onto a 20 Gb partition with no probs whatsoever.
No swapfile, hibernation disabled. The usual set of tricks. *chuckle
