Windows 10: Can't install Win 11 with USB

The USB is UEFI, but attempting to boot it during bios will say that I'm in legacy/CSM mode, and will not work. After disabling legacy mode/CSM, I can't get any prompt to allow me to boot from the USB at all. Is there a way around this, or could I make the USB a MGR? Would booting and installing a MGR USB be detrimental to a computer with a GPT disk? Secure boot is off, I have tried toggling with CSM mode, and Legacy USB support settings.And Installing it through a USB is my only option.

Install Win 11 alogside win 10 question

1. I called the support phone number and was told they do not support dual booting to Win 11.

2. I keep getting the message from the installer "we couldn't create a new partition or locate one".

3. What I am trying to do is install a fresh copy of Win 11 on a second hard drive. Win 10 is on "C". I want to put Win 11 on "T". I have tried the media creation tool. I have downloaded an ISO and used Rufus to burn it to a USB. I have tried most of the suggestions posted over the internet, but none have worked.

4. One of the solutions I can think of is to disconnect or remove the "C" drive, do the installation, and re-connect the drive. The downside to this process is the fact the PC needs to be disassembled to accomplish the process. ( remove the graphics card and one heatsink ). Another is to use xcopy with the switches k/h/e to put the files from the USB on the "T" drive and try to boot to the installer

5. I need advice as to possible solutions.

 

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

 

Installing Windows 11 from a recovery USB on Dell Inspiron 3580

Hi,

Background:

Drive was showing signs of death. Machine had Win 11 installed and updated.

• I created a USB recovery drive as per MS instructions.
  
• I removed the old drive, and added a new SSD drive.
  
• Upon boot Windows Setup launches. I select language, time and currency, and keyboard (all defaults) and click Next.
  
• I click Install Now.
  
• Setup starts.
  
• I respond to the applicable notices and license terms affirmatively and click Next.
  
• I am seeing 2 options: Upgrade which is not available because I am booting with a USB drive. I choose Custome, Install Windows Only. Which is fine by me.
  
• I choose the new drive from the list.
  
• The installation runs from Copying Windows files to Finishing up. All steps are marked complete.
  
• Then the Windows Setup launches again.
  

Dell diagnostics show the new drive is functional, and no other problems were found.

Can anyone please suggest what I might try next/differently, etc.?
