Windows 10: Can't install xbox wireless adapter drivers on windows 10. version 1803

I have an xbox elite controller and want to use the wireless adapter but the driver won't automatically install and they don't recognize the ones from catalog:windows.update.com (steam instructions). I followed many of the instructions for version 1709 but none of them worked and I have version 1803 windows 10 os build 17134.523

I understand that some steps ae done to try to resolve this issue and that you have tried downloading the drivers from the Microsoft Update Catalog. For us to help you in resolving this issue, may we ask you to do the following?

• Unplug the XBOX cable from the computer.
• Restart your computer.
• Plug in the XBOX cable and check if it will try to install the adapter.

If the above step won't work, I suggest you to follow the suggestions by
Andre Da Costa in below article and check if it resolves the issue.

Xbox one wireless adapter for windows failed install

Hello,

As of the windows update KB3140768 & KB3140743 pretty much all Xbox one controller's working with window 10 now break and hang games/systems they previously used to work with,

As a workaround, It was suggested that uninstalling those updates and using older xbox one controller drivers until Microsoft fix the initial problem. Upon doing this my Wireless xbox one adapter dongle now is unrecognizable and wont take any drivers to
install it or updates.

Any help on getting my Xbox one wireless adapter to install again?
