  1. Can't log into my account + touchpad not working

Hey! I need help. So I logged into my account on my laptop and my touchpad wasn't working. I therefore restarted my laptop only to find that now on top of that, I couldn't log into my account either. I tried startup repair but then the problem couldn't be fixed. Where do I go from here? My options are to uninstall updates or do a system restore. I'm not very tech savvy and just want the option that will let me keep my files. Oh and I also tried safe mode but the touchpad wasn't working there either.

  2. Touchpad Left- and Right-Click Not Working

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    Please answer the following question:

Did you log in to the system using a standard user account or an administrator user account?

In order to make changes in Device Manager you MUST be logged on as an administrator.

After logging in to the administrator Account, I would suggest you first try updating the driver.

Follow the steps to update the Touchpad drivers:

    • Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

    • Find the relevant Touchpad driver and right click on it.

    • Select Properties and then go to the Driver Tab. Click Update.

    • Restart the computer and check.
If this doesn't solve your problem, you have to uninstall and then reinstall your driver in compatibility mode.

    • Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

    • Find the relevant Touchpad driver and right click on it.

    • Select Properties and then go to the Driver Tab. Click Uninstall.

    • Restart the computer and check.
Now go to your manufacturer's website and re install the driver in compatibility mode.

Hope this helps. Please respond if you have further related queries.

I want to disable touchpad on Dell laptop

    Hello everyone,
My laptop's touchpad works and I don't want it to, because I prefer a mouse. It's a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series on windows 10 OS.

What I have tried that hasn't worked:
    • start<settings<devices<mouse & touchpad<additional mouse options. This opens a window called Mouse Options which has 5 tabs up top, none of which involve the touchpad. The Hardware tab shows 2 devices: the mouse itself, and the USB. No touchpad there.
    • windows key+x<mobility center. No touchpad to be found.
    • various function keys. No options for touchpad on/off.
    • device manager<mice and other pointing devices. Again, only the mouse and usb show up. It appears the touchpad is working without a driver, which is a little spooky.
Any other suggestions? I could try downloading a third party driver, but that seems like a step in the wrong direction.
    Thanks
