Windows 10: Can't minimize to taskbar on a few programs.

What graphic card do you have and drivers installed?

I got a very weird problem with my Win 10 Pro: I can't minimize some apps to taskbar, because the button is greyed out.

It happens only after some uptime (I keep my PC running 24/7).
After a reboot all is working fine again.
I can't say what causes this problem but after some time the minimize button get's greyed out on a few programs.
so far I noticed it with Notepad, MIRC and Outlook 2016.

this is annoying af. I couldn't find anything about this issue on the web yet.

someone told me this might be the behavior when switched to Tablet mode but that is definitely disabled.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update problems

When any window for example Google Chrome or any program is open i can't minimize it from the taskbar and must use the minimize button

any help ?

 

minimize programs to taskbar

unable to minimize internet. i can only close out or shrink it to half size. i am unable to minimize to the task bar. running firefox

 

After doing some research, I've found very little information on this.

Run SFC Command in Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials - someone claimed that running system file checker fixed this issue for them.

Others said that restarting explorer or desktop window manager (dwm) helped, but I doubt this was a permanent fix.

Would you mind running sfc and letting us know what it says, and if it fixed the problem?

 

I couldn't find anything about this issue at all. good that you had some more luck!

I did 2x sfc /scannow - found nothing

then I did Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - that was finished successfully.

I will reboot now and check if something changed within the next few days.

somehow it became worse *Sad
today I noticed that all new started notepads can't be minimized anymore. before it happened only with longer running processes.

with switching to tablet mode I was able to force the active notepad to get the minimize button back. but it worked only for the active window and only twice. now it doesn't work anymore.

here is a screenshot of new started notepads. none with minimize button.





any more ideas?

 

another update: noticed that problem also on IrfanView and FlashFXP now too.
But also with Chrome, though a little different: it still got the minimize button, but it doesn't work.

 

I'm sorry to say, but at this point I'm clueless. Maybe someone else can chip in and suggest something?

What do your "Tablet Mode Settings" look like?
