Windows 10: Can't open certain .exe files on my pc.

I've had this problem for a while now. Some .exe files on my pc just don't open. After few month i finally found a clue. I downloaded this app called LastActivityView it show the last activities on my pc like opening files, with it it also shows the extension of the files. I found that when i try to open one of the files that wont open, the app shows i opened it. The only clue i found is that every ,exe app that doesnt open has an "EXE" file extension, when all .exe files that open normally have an "exe" file extension. Exe file slow to open

A SFX archive isn't going to open right away. The files have to be extracted first. When you are opening it in WinRar, it's not extracting the file, it's just reading it which is why it opens right away.

 

Certain .exe files won't open

I'm having an intermittent issue where specific .exe files won't open in Windows 11.

Sometimes, they'll open fine, but other times I click on the icon (or explorer location), and nothing happens.

When checking task manager to see if there is any activity. The process appears briefly (1-2 seconds) and then disappears from the list

To troubleshoot I have tried:

• Running as administrator
  
• Running the .exe from different locations (onedrive /documents & local /documents)
  
• Re-downloading the files
  

None of the above solved the issue. Restarting the laptop doesn't solve it, it just seems to happen for a period of time (most so far is ~2 days), and then works for a similarly unspecified period of time.

I've noticed the problem with Godot (v4.2 and v4.3 at User/OneDrive/Documents/...), and Blender (v4.0 at C:/Program Files/...), whereas other applications work with no issues, e.g. GIMP (at C:/Program Files/...).

Godot/Blender are the only two programs I've found the issue with so far.

Another attempt, I redownloaded Godot and tried to open it. The same thing happened. But, when I tried to then delete the .exe, it won't let be because "the file is open in another program", even though it doesn't appear in the task manager "processes" list.

I can open most exe files just fine. Its specific files like winlogon.exe, lsass.exe, svchost.exe
