Windows 10: Can't open HEIC photos even with HEVC and HEIF extension installed

When I try to open HEIC photos from my iPhone 14 pro on my computer in the photos app I get the error "It looks like we don't support this file format." despite having installed both the HEIF and HEVC extensions from Microsoft. I tried rebooting the machine after installing the extensions, and then I tried repairing the Photos app and the HEVC extension, with no effect. Also, I don't see the HEIF extension in the installed app list, despite it being "installed" in the Microsoft store.My computer is currently on Windows 11 home single language Version 23H2 with an AMD 2700X CPU and an RX590 GPU

HEIF & HEVC extension downloaded, but couldn't view image files

Hi Team,

I have successfully installed the HEIF extension and also purchased the HEVC extension from the Microsoft store. After downloading the extensions too I'm unable to view the images captured in HEIC format. Even on the home page of the HEIF/HEVC extension only options to view videos are available. I have tried attaching all the screenshots of the home tab of extensions, photos app notifications and payment order receipt but unable to do the same.

I need your suggestions and input at the earliest.

HEIF AND HEVC Media Extensions

To know if the extensions are installed before you go on the pc to:

Settings> Apps> Apps & features.

and search the extensions list.

The only caveat about HEIF is that files using HEVC codecs requires modern hardware, such as Intel 7th Gen Core processors and newer graphics cards. Otherwise, the extension will not work as expected when playing videos.

HEVC Video extension not installing

Hi,

I am trying to view HEIC image files on my Windows 10 PC

I installed HEIF extension from Microsoft Store, it installed properly, but still Photos app is showing only blurry images.

Upon googling i saw advice to install HEVC Video extension too.

I bought HEVC Video extension from the Microsoft Store and when click on "Install" nothing happens and HEVC is not listed in the Apps & Features list. (HEIF extension is present in this list)

When i select the three dots near the "Install" button i was given the list of machines i want the extension to be installed on. When i select the machine i am trying to install on, all i get is the message saying that "We will attempt to install the extension on the machine you requested" but no action

Is there a way for me to get the binary myself and install it manually instead of relying on some auto install program?

I have already wasted 2 days trying to view HEIC files on Windows 10.
