Windows 10: Can't open some desktop apps - only option is "Pin to Start"

    I don't have the option to run many desktop apps (e.g., control panel, notepad). Clicking the app does nothing. The only option I have is "Pin to Start."

    How to pin applications to taskbar with windows 10

    "Pin to Taskbar" is not an option. There are only two options: 1) pin/unpin to start, and 2) open application.

    Create a printer shortcut in Windows 10?

    When you installed the printer/scanner, it should have created a SCAN shortcut in the start menu. Right click on it, there should be a an option to pin to the Start menu. In the More option, there should be an option to "open file location". Open it then
    right click and drag that program to the desktop to create a shortcut on the desktop.
