Windows 10: Can't open USB pen drive via USB-C port unless through outlet-powered USB hub

I have a Samsung Galaxy book 10.6 with a USB-C port


Up until today I had no problems but today I decided to let windows update, well, update and now I cant open usb Pen drives through the USB type C port, which I used to; in addition to that, now my usb hub/dongle (from Vention) doesn't work either unless I connect it via its own usb-c port to the electrical outlet, in which case it gets recognized by windows which allows me, this way, to open my pen drive (connected to the Vention usb hub); the moment I disconnect power from it, Windows stops recognizing both the dongle/hub and the pen drive.


My battery is over 50% and the energy settings are set to maximum performance; I don't know what else to do.

Yes. A USB hub plugged into your PC directly and powered from the USB port will draw even MORE power than it is already.

Besides, USB draw on a current PC is neglegible when it comes to PSU power... 500ma.. is nothing.

You need a WALL POWERED USB hub.

I didnt meant the computer psu, but the one powering the usb-hub (from a wall outlet),
as each usb device requires a minimum of power (forgot how much).
Anyway many 4-10 port hubs dont deliver the required power.

So are there any reliable usb-hubs out there ?

 

USB Port Issue - Power Surge on Hub Port

I have no Idea, what i suggested you check is the USB ports on your computer ensure you didn't damage them. The Hub you smoked is smoked get rid of it.
You new Hub is it self-powered? if not you probably don't have enough power going to the hub to support many devices. The flash drive plug it into a port on your computer if it works then its ok and the issue is the hub. If not you can try to run chk disk on it maybe you can fix it.
