Windows 10: Can't open volume setting next to clock without first restarting Windows Explorer in TM

So this has been an issue for over a year, since I built my PC. After I start it, if I want to click the volume icon in the bottom right corner, far right side of the taskbar, to change my audio output to my headphones or to adjust volume, nothing happens. The calendar works, all the other little widgets work just fine down there. But the volume setting does nothing. In order to fix it, I have to open a file explorer window, open task manager, and restart Windows Explorer in the task manager. Sometimes I'll have to do this another 2 or 3 times over the course of a day with the volume setting suddenly not working again randomly. Once I restart Windows Explorer, clicking the volume icon makes a little settings window slide up from the taskbar that I can change my volume levels and select output device through.



How do I fix this? I can provide further specs if needed, other than being on 10 64 bit with an AMD+MSI build. OS build 19041.804.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

• Once changed, close the File Explorer.
