Windows 10: cant open windows search and cotana

hi, i cant open windows search and cotana. how to fix it?

No Search - No Cotana Ability

Please refer the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Perform System File Check (SFC), and then check if this fixes the issue.

Follow the steps:

SFC scan:

• Press Windows logo + X
• Select command prompt admin
• Type ‘sfc /scannow’ (without quotes) and press enter.
• Restart your computer.

Method 2: Perform
DISM and check it helps.

I would also suggest you to run the System update readiness command. It detects incorrect manifests, cabinets or registry data, it may replace the incorrect data with corrected version available. Follow the steps.

1. Press Windows key + X.

2. Click command prompt (Run as administrator).

3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press
Enter key after each command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type
Exit, and then press Enter.

If issue persist try method 3.

Method 3

Step: 1 Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip:
Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.

Step: 2 Click File > Run New Task

Step: 3 Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”

Step: 4 Type PowerShell

Step: 5 Type the following in the PowerShell prompt:

$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest

Step: 6 Close the PowerShell window

Step: 7 Reboot.

If issue still persist try method 4.

Method 4: I suggest you to
create a new User account to resolve the issue.

No Search - No Cotana Ability

Hi,

Thanks - Your solution link kinda /almost works.

If I type willy-nilly in the start screen it does bring up a search ability. However, it does not allow me to change Settings
to on for Cortana. There is no gear icon for Settings
as indicated in the solution. I did fumble around and opened some type of settings dialog box but it too does not work by holding the set Cortana to on......

No such Settings icon is listed.

"If you hide the Search button on the Taskbar,
simply open the Start menu and type anything to bring up the Search Windows dialog. Then, go to Settings menu (Gear icon), and slide the toggle for Cortana can give
you suggestions, ideas, reminders, alerts and more to On."

I still click on the search/cortana icon in the task bar and nothing happens. I think it tries to come up but quickly then fails to display.

Unable to type anything on search box in taskbar or explorer. Cotana is missing also.

Thanks, But cotana or windows search is not in the processes in task manager. What should I do?
