    So I'm trying to remote into my cousin's Windows 10 PC via RDP. I told him this could be difficult because he has both a local account and a Microsoft Account. His account is the admin account on the computer. I have tried logging in at least 5 ways and they all fail. His local account username is the 5 character username created and shortened by Windows when you first make an acct, let's call it 'johny'. His Microsoft account is a gmail, so let's say his Microsoft username is 'johnyfullname@gmail.com'. He has fingerprint and pin sign on enabled as well.

    I had him change his password through the Windows Settings app, (which is a total nightmare if you ask me). So I am pretty confident he actually changed the PW to his Microsoft Account, not the local account 'johny'.

    I have tried logging in via RDP using the username 'johny', with the Microsoft account name 'johnyfullname@gmail.com', and another post online recommended I try 'Microsoft Account\johnyfullname@gmail.com' and nothing has worked.

    I have been trying for the life of me to figure out how the hell he can change/reset the PW for his local account 'johny' but literally every online support forum either gives instructions that change the Microsoft Account, or say that the computer has to be factory reset.

    This Microsoft Account garbage is really frustrating.

    I restart my Windows remote hosts in this simple way:

    Command: shutdown /r /t 0 -- OR -- shutdown -r -t 0

    You can then reconnect to remote host as soon as it has booted to Welcome / sign-in screen (network will be reconnected latest at this point).

    Microsoft Account and Authentication during RDP

    Hello, trying to RDP to my windows 10 (fall creators update) via RDP but the RDP client always fails with invalid credential.

    I have tried the combinations:

    • Microsoft account primary alias and Microsoft account password
    • Local username associated with my Microsoft account and Microsoft account password
    Neither is accepted for sign in. I have Mobile sign in enabled on my account so I technically never entered my password here.
