Can't Reconnect Drives When Starting Up

About 1 out of every 4 or 5 times our users turn on their computers they cannot access shared drives that are on the network. Never had this problem with previous versions of windows. Is there a fix for this? Thanks.

    :)

    windows 10 network drive

Using Windows 10 on both of my PCs and all was fine until yesterday. Now the mapped Z: drive is not connecting on start up as usual. When I click on the drive with the red X I get an "Error has occurred while reconnecting Z:\\FILENAME\windows. The local
device name is already in use." "The network path has not been restored."

Not sure where to go with this. I don't need to map a drive, just reconnect.

Accessing a remote hard drive connected to my Windows 10 laptop

With autoplay switched on, when I connect my external drive I get the option I require to explore the files on that drive. However, if I close the remote drive when done and then hibernate the laptop, I can no longer see the remote drives content. In Windows
7, I simply went to my computer and opened up any connected device from there.

With Windows 10, if starting up my laptop from hibernation with the hard drive connected, I now have to disconnect it, then reconnect it and wait for autoplay to pop up. Why can't the devices in Windows 10 as shown in settings/devices/connected devices -
be operated from there? I must be missing something somewhere! Also, how can I create a desktop shortcut for connected devices as I was able to do in Windows 7?

Are they being mapped from a logon script or GPO?

They are just mapped via Network-->Map Network Drive --> reconnect at login

Have you checked in the event viewer for errors regarding the mappings? Are these Pro or Enterprise Windows machines?

If you have access to the server that is hosting the shares, I would go into gpedit on the server and turn on "Audit File Share" under Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Advanced Audit Policy > System Audit Policy > Object Access. If the connection fails to the share from the end user device it should tell you why it failed.

The problem may be at the server end...

You can go to the Server and...

Thanks Bree. Its not losing the connection while the computer is turned on, its usually in the morning time when users go to turn their computer on. Doesn't happen the same days for all users, but does seem to affect most windows 10 users every so often.
