Windows 10: Can't Remote Desktop Into PC even after PRO Upgrade

Hi all, I am wondering if someone can help me get Remote Desktop working. Here is the problem:
I have a brand new Acer Desktop PC that came with Windows 10 Home, after unsuccessfully trying to get remote desktop working on Home I eventually bought the upgrade to Pro.
The PC upgraded to Pro but I am still unable to connect to the PC via Remote Desktop Connection.
I am sure the IP is correct is because I can ping the PC from another PC on the same network and I get a reply back successfully.
I have tried several steps and procedures found via google(changing services properties, disabling firewall, allowing RDP etc...) but nothing is working.
Currently I am resetting the computer back to default in hopes this fixes any issues I may have caused during my troubleshooting
Any ideas/suggestions that you guys have that got Remote Desktop Connection working would be great, thanks in advance!

PC takes a long time to remote into after upgrading to Windows 10

I have a headless PC where I store all my media and before Windows 10, I was able to remote desktop into that PC in an instant. After upgrading to Windows 10 (Pro), it always takes a good 10-15 seconds after logging in, for the remote desktop to show up.
I have tried both, the win32 RDP application as well as the Store app. Both demonstrate the same issue. My OS drive is in fact an SSD on that remote PC so even if it completely restarted, it should not take that long.

 

Remote Desktop Win 10 Pro through 2012 Essential Gateway

I recently upgraded my laptop and desktop to Win 10 Pro. Previously, I was using Win 7 on each computer. Before the upgrade, I was able to use the traditional Remote Desktop Connection software to connect to my work PC via my 2012 Essential server.

Since I've upgraded, I cannot connect to the work PC remotely using the built-in Win 10 RDC software. I can connect using my Android phone and using Remote Desktop Preview. As such, I know that the gateway and office computer are working.

FYI, I can establish Win 10 Pro to Win 10 Pro and Win 10 Pro to Win 2012 Essential remote desktop sessions using the built-in RDC software inside of my office network.

Why can't I connect through the gateway using the traditional, built-in Remote Desktop software?

Perhaps I'm belaboring the obvious, but do your remote access settings look like this on the target PC (the one you're trying to remote into):



This windows is accessed through the System widget in control panel, then the "Remote settings" link on the upper left side.

Yes I have setup those configurations as such and still I am unable to connect to the PC.

 

Is one of the PCs wired and the other one wireless? Some wireless configurations don't permit local access to PCs, though they happily allow Internet access. If one of your machines is wireless, you might try switching to a wired connection to see if it makes a difference. Then we can diagnose further down that path. Also: have you tried remoting from each member of the pair to the other member of the pair? I've seen situations where remote access works fine from PC A --> PC B, but not from PC B --> PC A.

I was also thinking it was a wireless/wired connection issue but it was not anything related. What I actually ended up doing was just completely re-formatting the windows PC and doing a fresh install back to original system settings. I turned on Remote Desktop Connection and right away I was able to connect via Remote Desktop.

Thanks for the help, I will jot these notes down in case I need to further troubleshoot. Appreciate it.

 

There's a certain doggedness required to get to the bottom of these things. You have done an admirable job, sir. I have to keep reminding myself when I get caught up in troubleshooting problems, that if it takes more than an hour to fix something, I could (and should) have simply reinstalled my latest backup image. Something for all of us to remember as we wander down the hall of smoke and mirrors that is Windows 10.
