  2. Getting a Cooling Fan Error on my HP Laptop

I may be missing the point regarding the suggestion of the cooling fans connected USB, but this LAPTOP is hardly used
The average use is an hour per day - no gaming
except in the most high temp environments I cannot see that the laptop should require such additional cooling.
In many cases this 90B error has been resolved by a BIOS update. An examination of the HP site shows that BIOS updates were separately issued for 1903, 1909, 2004 and 20H2 and previous versions.
The BIOS updates coinciding approx with the date of that build version of windows 10.

I do appreciate that if the laptop was subjected to hours of use, with full load demand on CPU and graphics, this is then a different ball game

That said we all have our own opinion of course, but I am convinced the first approach is to try and solve the 90B error rather than the purchase of a cooling fan/s or cooling mat

    Cooling external Fan

    Hi Paul,

For us to isolate the issue with your external fan, please provide the following information:

    • When did the issue start?
    • Have you tried connecting other USB external devices to your laptop? If yes, what was the result?
    • Have you tried connecting your external fan to another computer?

We're looking forward to your reply.

Getting a Cooling Fan Error on my HP Laptop

After the reset, there is a chance, albeit slight that the 90B error is caused by some incompatibility between Windows in its current version and the HP sensor settings for the fan - producing the 90B error
If you refer back to the link I sent you, you will have seen that the step after the cleaning with canned air etc and the checking of the vents is recommended as a BIOS update

So after that reset and with the laptop connected to mains power - NOT on the battery and if you have a wired ethernet connection, that is better than relying on the wireless connection, especially if the wireless is in any way less than 100% reliable

Read again the link I sent regarding the 90B error and the BIOS update
    then go here
    https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c00042629

    and see this section
Update the BIOS automatically using HP Support Assistant
That is as I said referring back to the original link I sent you
    https://support.hp.com/gb-en/documen...moval%20system.

There was a time when BIOS updates were always considered best done from booting from the usb pen after downloading the BIOS update to it. Many still prefer that method, but it is my opinion that things have moved on and especially when you have the ability to update BIOS via HP Support assistant, that is the way I recommend.

You cannot afford that laptop to turn off on battery, so no matter what it says the battery power is use the AC adapter.
Neither do you want the download of the BIOS to be hampered by a less than perfect internet connection, that is the reason I recommend the wired ethernet.

IF that fails to cure the 90B error then we must presume that it is a genuine warning of a problem and you must then revert to the suggestions of my colleagues for analysis of temps etc .

When you follow the BIOS update you will be presented with F61 A
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers...Id/ob-265568-1

That link is the same download that will be given to you by the HP Support Assistant.

    Finally
DO NOT TURN that laptop OFF even it seems that nothing is occurring. Be patient and wait for the message .
I have known people think that something has gone wrong and turned off the laptop - that is a certain way to problems
