Windows 10: Can’t Reset PIN No Internet

Windows Updated itself and restarted while I was asleep. I use a VPN with an Internet Kill-Switch that blocks internet connections when the VPN is not on. Now I can’t even log in to my f****** computer. It just keeps telling me “You need to reset your pin because security settings have changed.” Then I click to set up a new pin and the windows login window opens and says “You’re not connected to the internet. Retry or Cancel”. Why isn’t there an option that says “I can’t connect to the internet.” I have a normal username and password to log in, why don’t I have an option to use that instead?I’

For us to pin down this issue on your computer, particularly with Internet Explorer, may we know if you've already tried resetting Internet Explorer? If you haven't tried that yet, then you can follow these steps:

• Open Internet Explorer.
• Go to Tools, then click Internet Options.
• Click Connections, then go to LAN settings, and uncheck the option “Automatically detect settings” and click
  Apply & OK.
• After that, re-open Internet Explorer.

You may also temporarily turn off the Firewall and antivirus settings.

Let us know the outcome after performing the suggested steps.

 

Can't reset my PIN

1. Were there any changes made to the operating system recently?
   
2. Is the system connected with Wired or wireless connection?
   

If you are using wireless connection, I suggest you to plug in to the Ethernet cable and try entering the password. I also suggest you to change the Microsoft password by login to
login.live.com from other device. Try entering the password through
on-screen keyboard.

I also suggest you to enable build-in admin account using command prompt from WinRE, follow the below steps, and check if that helps.

Step: Enable built-in admin from WinRE.

1. On the login screen click on the power button at the bottom right corner of the screen.
2. Hold Shift key and click on restart.
3. Click on Troubleshoot.
4. Click on Advanced options.
5. Click on Command Prompt.
6. Type the command net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter key.
7. Once logged in to the built in admin account, try changing the current user account password.

If you are unable to change the password for the account, I suggest you to create a new user account. Follow the steps from the article to create a new user account

I can't PIN Internet Explorer to the taskbar. Can someone help?

To pin Internet Explorer to your taskbar, kindly follow these steps.

• Type Internet Explorer on Cortana's search field.
• Right click on Internet Explorer and select Pin to taskbar.
