    Can't scroll in Windows applications; Settings, Start Menu, etc.


    As the title says, I cannot use my scroll wheel to scroll down in Windows applications, primarily Settings and even in the All Apps section of the Start Menu. I'm running Windows 11 Home 22H2 version 22621.675 on a Ryzen 5 5600 processor and a Radeon RX 6600 graphics card, with version 22.10.2 of AMD's Adrenalin software/driver. Windows Update reports no new updates are available. If needed, I can provide a DxDiag or other information about my system upon request. Quick edit: I can scroll in other applications like Firefox or Discord.

    You need to go one step further...

    Settings >Personalization > Start, then click as shown by the RED square...

    windows 10 scrolling not working in start menu

    Hi,

    Thanks for posting. To troubleshoot this issue, follow these steps:

    • Open Start Menu.
    • Go to Settings>Devices>Mouse and Touchpad.
    • There should be an option called Scroll Inactive Windows. It's turned off by default, so try turning it on.

    No recent document for applications on start menu


    These list of recent files are called Jump Lists. Windows 10 still has them, but now you get them by right-clicking on the application on the Start menu (or on an application pinned to the taskbar).

    If you can't see a jump list this way, check that 'Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar' is turned on in:
    Settings > Personalise > Start

    NB: Be careful with this setting. The way to clear all Jump Lists is turn this setting off then back on again.
