Windows 10: Can't see the C drive partition of an old HDD used as external

Hello,My last laptop can't boot anymore so I bought a new one.I took the drive from this last laptop to transfer files to the new laptop, using that drive as an external drive. When the drive was internal to the old laptop, it had two partitions C system and user documents, D personal files. Now, when I plug it to the new pc , as an external drive, I only see one partition, continaing only files that where ine the D partition. Can't see the C partition, and files that were inside.Do you know how could I fix the issue ?Thank you for your time, have a nice day

Use old HDD from old laptop as an external drive?

Yes, you can use that drive in a HDD enclosure as a data drive.

After you install Windows on the SSD, connect that HDD using a USB enclosure, then copy off any files you need from that drive to the SSD temporarily

Then in Disk Management, delete all partitions on the HDD and create one new large partition, that HDD will then be ready to use as an external data drive.

 

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

Lost all my external HDD data, when I selected single partition drive from External HDD to create a Recovery Drive

Hi All

I recently bought Laptop with having Windows 10 Home edition. I did setup everything and I thought of creating recovery drive using my External HDD which is 1 TB drive dividing into 5 partitions. In that External Drive, I formatted one of the partition to create a recovery drive.

When I ran Create Recovery Drive from Control Panel. It should be available Drives list, which is from my external HDD having 5 different letters allocation. I selected the single partition drive in which I deleted the data to create a recovery drive.

After that when the recovery drive got created, my addition partitions in External HDD got deleted completed and Lost all my years of Data, now I am not sure how I can I recover it back . Please someone from tech team, help me out, so much of important Data I had, I am not sure why it has to delete all my other partition data when I selected a specific partition in the external HDD.
