    Can't Stop Sharing Folder

I Upgraded to Windows 10 two days ago, I shared one of the folders on my desktop and now I can't close the share.
When I click stop sharing on both the ribbon and the context specific menu, after I right click the folder, nothing happens.

    Please help.

    :)

    What does this icon mean?

That icon indicates the folder is shared, to stop sharing the folder, right click it and select Sharing - Stop Sharing . . .

  3. How to stop folder sharing

i have a folder shared using LIBRARIES...Video folder

the files and folders shared are appearing in network..

but the question is how to stop a folder or file ...the root folder of which is already shared in Video libraries ...

i tried the STOP SHARING option which dosen't stop the file from appearing in the shared folder.

    EXAMPLE:

    the folder : TEST = 5 video files A,B,C,D,E

I Have included this folder in VIDEO LIBRARIES , so it is shared.

now i don't want to share video 'C' from TEST folder, how to remove this single file?

already used STOP SHARING option which has no effect.

    Can't Stop Sharing Folder

    Try doing it manually?

Open an elevated command prompt, right click on Start then click Command Prompt Admin.
    Then type

Code: net share sharename /delete [/quote]

And press enter sharename being the name of the share, probably the folder unless you called it something else

  6. Hi there,

I've also got a problem in stopping sharing. Not 100% sure if I should make a new post or post it here.....
Anyways, I have 2 folders I want to unshare from my network: Pictures2 and Videos2 both of which I believe are empty.

    Can't Stop Sharing Folder [IMG]

While I was able to unshare the 'Videos2' folder by going into the Properties normally, I can't stop sharing 'Pictures2' from my network even though my computer is the one sharing it. I get a "Windows cannot access XXX" so I can't access it either.

I did notice a difference between these folders which may or may not be important - The Pictures2 folder doesn't have an owner (either that or it can't display it in advanced security settings) while the Videos2 owner was SYSTEM.
My user account was in the 'shared' list of both these two folders which is strange, as I couldn't access Pictures2 but could access Videos2. My user account is admin if that helps.
Honestly I don't know how or when they were even created and I can't find them on my C: Drive.

I tried using the manual cmd method you suggested but I got an access denied error:

I would like this Pictures2 folder unshared and deleted off my PC if possible.

Help?! Any advice would be appreciated.

Just use a Linux live DVD or USB and delete it with that. I personally like Linux Mint. Right click and choose Peremptorily Delete.

I'm not sure if you're response was for me or not, but I'll assume it was. Either way I'm not sure I get where you're coming from. Are you suggesting I get rid of Windows for Linux perhaps?

Yes, my post was in response to your statement that you wanted to delete the Pictures2 folder.

I'm not sure if you’re familiar with Linux but when you make a Linux Live USB it is a temporary
operating system that runs from the computer’s memory. Nothing gets written to your hard drive.
I use Linux Mint with the Mate Desktop 32-Bit. I read somewhere that is the best one to use for a live
USB. Linux Mint with the Cinnamon Desktop is the most popular. There are many different Linux
distributions you can try, I just happen to like Mint. You can use this to delete any file you want.

Before you start deleting files I would recommend you boot the usb from an old laptop or desktop you
have lying around. Try it out for a while and get accustom to it. If you do not have an old computer maybe
one of your friends do. Take a look at how the hard drives are lettered. Sometimes when you’re using
a live disc or usb your drive letters get switched around. Your normal C drive in Windows will become
D or E in a Live distribution. That is why I say to use it for a while. Don't delete anything you’re not
    sure of.

The last thing I will tell you is when you put in your disc or usb and turn on the computer never click
on install. At one time I used a different Linux called Ubuntu. The way that worked was when you turned
on youe computer Ubuntu asked if you wanted to install it. If you clicked yes it would start writing files
to your hard drive. if you did nothing it would just boot to the live program. There was a timer counting
down before it would continue. Just be careful. That was years past and I do not know if it still works
    that way.
If you want to get a look at Linux just search YouTube for Linux Mint or any other Linux distribution.

Here is a link to Linux Mint download page

Here is a link to a program to make a Linux Live USB. There are many if you Google. It is a Windows program.

    NZGhostChips,

I just wanted to tell you just before you delete the Pictures2 folder you should create a Windows Restore Point and create a complete backup of you hard drive. You never know when something will go wrong or Windows complains about the missing folder.

You can use Macrium Reflect Free to make a backup of your hard drive. Don't forget to make the recovery media right away. That is what you need to restore the hard drive. Do that even before making the backup. I never used Macrium Reflect Free but it seems like almost everyone on this forum does. If you have any questions, just start a new thread and I'm sure there are a lot of people that can help.

  11. Yes I've used Linux before for some assignments (Ubuntu) running it off a VM. But I didn't know about you've mentioned.
Hmmm. Thanks for the advice, I will keep it in mind. Cheers

EDIT: I've managed to delete it without your solution. I was able to make myself the owner of the folder through Computer Management somehow, even though the same thing didn't work by right clicking the folder. Anyways, all fixed *Smile
