Windows 10: Can't Type Into Windows File Explorer Search Box

This morning I rebooted my PC because I couldn't get it out of sleep mode the monitor remained black. Everything seemed to come up normally. I noticed a process called Antimalware Service Executable, which I had never seen running before, hogging resources for an extended preiod of time, but it eventually quieted down.After starting the Windows File Explorer, I noticed I couldn't enter anything in the Search box, whereas I could do this yesterday. Historical searches appear in the drop down and work. I didn't notice any recent Window updates having been installed. I tried restarting

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open file explorer

2. type something in search box

3. clear search box

4. click search box again, you will see a drop down list showing recent search history

5. click the Quick access which is located at the top of file explorer Navigation pane

6. click search box again, it does not show the history list anymore

I have to close file explorer and open it again to get the search history back.

When I start to type into the 'search' box on File Explorer on the right side of the address bar, if I type at normal speed the first one or two characters do not appear or are overwritten as I type.

I have File Explorer set to automatically start in the 'search' box.

To enter in the 'search' box, I must enter ONE character or hit the space bar and then wait about a second for the display to stabilize before I can enter the remaining characters into the 'search' box. This delay or overtyping problem seems to have started
six or more months ago and I was hoping that future updates would correct this. I have not been able to locate any reference to this problem with numerous 'google' searches on the Internet. I suspect that it has something to do with the list of files that
now appears below the 'search' box as I type in the characters. It should NOT require multiple keystrokes to start a search in File Explorer when set to automatically start in the 'search' box. Thank you!
