Windows 10: can't type letters at PIN screen

got a new computer running windows 11. Is that copilot? been up,working fine for a few days. For first time today, I cannot type PIN at startup screen. Numbers work, but not letters. I have tried two keyboards. Both work on old computer. Tried virtual keyboard. would not work there either - same thing, numbers work, but not letters. Everything was fine when i logged off last evening

Can't type in PIN number when logging back in to Lock Screen

Hi everyone, occasionally when I return to my pc and want to log back in, I am not able to type any letters. I click into the log-in box but no characters are typed in. Whether it is the PIN or Password screen, no characters appear. To be clear, it does not do it every time, mostly I can log back in no problem.

my apologies if this question already exists somewhere, I just couldn't find this specific problem.

When I recently tried to log into my computer, I noticed the PIN field wouldn't accept letters anymore. This is weird as typing numbers still works. I eventually managed to log in by using the Windows password option where typing letters and numbers works
perfectly fine. The keyboard can't be the issue cause I'm using it now to type this message and as I said, switching to password option works. The problem literally happened overnight. Unfortunately, I can't remember if Windows was updated before switching
the computer off the previous night.

I then went on to try and change the PIN to all numbers but even that doesn't work as I experience the same problem when being asked for the old PIN. Any suggestions what may cause this issue?

After typing the first letter/number, the cursor stops flashing and nothing else will type in.

  Does the issue persists only in email and while entering the password or with other applications too?
  
• 
  Did you make any changes prior to the issue?
  
• 
  What is the make and model of your system?
  

As an initial step of troubleshooting, I suggest you to try using the on screen keyboard and check if the issue persists

Follow the steps below to open the on screen keyboard.

• Type on screen keyboard in the search bar and select
  On screen keyboard from the search items.

If you are able to type properly using the on screen keyboard then, it might be issue related to the keyboard hardware.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to run the
Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

• 
  Type Troubleshooting in the search bar and press
  Enter key.
  
• 
  In the Troubleshooting window, click on
  View all option on the left pane.
  
• 
  Click on Hardware and Devices.
  
• 
  Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.
  

If the issue persists, using on screen keyboard as well, then it might be an issue related to a third-party application or might be virus issue.

I suggest you to perform a full system scan using Windows Defender and check if it helps.
