When I am looking at Event Viewer, I get the below error message.

    > The GameInput Service service terminated with the following error:

The compound file GameInput Service was produced with a newer version of storage.

    > The GameInput Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 5 time(s).
The following corrective action will be taken in 1000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

Could some methods of fixing be suggested? and if any more information is required, please specify.

  3. How to reinstall GameInput service?

Thank you very much for reaching out! As an Independent Advisor and fellow Microsoft user, I'm more than happy to assist you.

Would you mind giving these steps a try and then informing me of the outcome?

    1. Use PowerShell to Reinstall:
      • Open PowerShell as an administrator (right-click the Start button and select "Windows PowerShell (Admin)").
      • Run the following commands to reinstall the GameInput service:

    2. Repair System Files:
      • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
      • Run the following commands to repair any corrupted system files:

    3. Check for Windows Updates:
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
      • Click on Check for updates and install any available updates. This might include updates for the GameInput service.
    4. Manually Download and Install GameInput:
      • If the above methods do not work, you might need to manually download the GameInput service files. Unfortunately, there is no direct download link available for these files. However, you can try reinstalling the Xbox app or any game that uses the GameInput service, as they might include the necessary files.
Regarding the Realtek microphone issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Update Realtek Drivers:
      • Go to the Realtek website and download the latest drivers for your audio device.
      • Install the drivers and restart your computer.
    2. Check Sound Settings:
      • Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
      • Go to the Recording tab, right-click your microphone, and select Set as Default Device.
      • Ensure the microphone is not muted and the levels are set correctly.
    3. Use Realtek Audio Console:
      • Open the Realtek Audio Console from the Start menu.
      • Ensure the settings are configured correctly for your microphone.
Please feel free to reach out if you require any additional assistance. I'm here to help!

Microsoft Gameinput still trying to install updates after being uninstalled

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

If you've uninstalled Microsoft GameInput, but you're still seeing updates being attempted, there could be a few reasons for this behavior. Here are some potential culprits and steps you can take to address the issue:

    1. Automatic Updates: Windows Update might still be trying to install updates for Microsoft GameInput even after you've uninstalled it. Sometimes, updates can linger in the update queue even if the software is removed. You can try the following:
      • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update."
      • Click on "Check for updates" to see if there are any pending updates for Microsoft GameInput. If there are, try to install them, as it might clear the update queue.
      • If the updates are causing issues, you can try hiding them by right-clicking on the update and selecting "Hide update."
    2. Incomplete Uninstallation: Sometimes, when software is uninstalled, remnants of the application can still remain on the system. This can lead to update-related issues. To address this:
      • Reinstall Microsoft GameInput (if possible).
      • Use an uninstaller tool (like Revo Uninstaller) that can perform a more thorough uninstallation, including cleaning up leftover files and registry entries.
    3. Background Services: Some software includes background services that can continue running even after the main application is uninstalled. These services might still trigger update attempts. To address this:
      • Open the "Task Manager" (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if there are any Microsoft GameInput-related processes running. If you find any, try to end them.
      • You can also use the "Services" application (services.msc) to check for any lingering services related to Microsoft GameInput.
    4. Third-Party Software: If you're using any third-party software related to gaming or system optimization, it might have its own mechanisms for managing updates. This software might be triggering the update attempts. Try disabling or uninstalling such software to see if it resolves the issue.
    5. Malware or PUA: It's possible that malware or potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) are causing unwanted behavior, including the attempt to update Microsoft GameInput. Run a full system scan using a reputable antivirus or antimalware tool.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best regards
